Activity Stabilization in a Population Model of Working Memory by Sinusoidal and Noisy Inputs
According to mechanistic theories of working memory (WM), information is retained as stimulus-dependent persistent spiking activity of cortical neural networks.

Promises in group decision making [PDF]
Abstract We assess in the laboratory the effect of promises on group decision-making. The gift-exchange game provides the testing ground for our experiment. When the game is played between groups, inter-group cooperation and reciprocity represent a condition for increasing total earnings as a measure of social efficiency.

The role of chronic pain and pain anxiety in delay discounting of pain and monetary losses
Pain may alter intertemporal decisions by modifying the value of pain-related outcomes. For example, a person with chronic back pain may be faced with two choices: undergo surgery that could provide long-term relief but would involve additional short ...

Design and Development of a Management System for Energy Microgrids Using Linear Programming
Energy is a fundamental tool for human development and this paper presents an approach that seeks to improve its use in Colombian off-grid communities. This approach is based on microgrid concepts where generation, storage, and consumption units interact

Making better decisions in groups [PDF]
We review the literature to identify common problems of decision-making in individuals and groups. We are guided by a Bayesian framework to explain the interplay between past experience and new evidence, and the problem of exploring the space of hypotheses about all the possible states that the world could be in and all the possible actions that one ...

Intertemporal Decision-Making for a Group [PDF]
Temporal discounting assessments measure the reduction in the subjective value of a reward as a function of the delay to that reward, and are correlated with behavior in social dilemma. Among the solutions proposed for defection in social dilemmas is a single individual making the decisions for the group.

The use of recognition in group decision‐making [PDF]
AbstractGoldstein and Gigerenzer (2002) [Models of ecological rationality: The recognition heuristic. Psychological Review, 109 (1), 75–90] found evidence for the use of the recognition heuristic. For example, if an individual recognizes only one of two cities, they tend to infer that the recognized city has a larger population.

Modelling influence in group decision making [PDF]
Group decision making has been widely studied since group decision making processes are very common in many fields. Formal representation of the experts' opinions, aggregation of assessments or selection of the best alternatives has been some of main areas addressed by scientists and researchers.
