Endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1 Regulation of SYNE1 Mediates Structural and Functional Recovery after Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1 deletion promotes long‐term recovery after traumatic brain injury by restoring SYNE1 expression. Enhanced endothelial SYNE1 preserves vascular integrity, protects white and gray matter, and improves neurological function. The endothelial miR‐15a/16‐1–SYNE1 axis emerges as a key regulator of neurovascular repair and a potential ...

Diurnal rhythm and effects of feeding, exercise and recombinant equine growth hormone on serum insulin concentrations in the horse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Reasons for performing the study\ud \ud As growth hormone increases lean body mass, it could be a therapy for obese horses. However, growth hormone use induces hyperinsulinaemia in some species, so further investigation is warranted.\ud \ud Objectives ...

The starvation hormone, fibroblast growth factor-21, extends lifespan in mice

open access: yeseLife, 2012
Fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF21) is a hormone secreted by the liver during fasting that elicits diverse aspects of the adaptive starvation response.

Loss of LCN2 Function Ameliorates Glucocorticoid‐Induced Muscle Atrophy via Remodeling the Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glucocorticoids transcriptionally activate LCN2 expression via GR nuclear translocation. Secreted LCN2 binds MMP9 to degrade skeletal muscle ECM collagen, blocks integrin‐mediated mechanotransduction, bidirectionally disrupts muscle protein homeostasis, and reveals a novel target for steroid‐induced muscle atrophy.

Growth cartilage expression of growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor I axis in spontaneous and growth hormone induced catch-up growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Introduction: Catch-up growth following the cessation of a growth inhibiting cause occurs in humans and animals. Although its underlying regulatory mechanisms are not well understood, current hypothesis confer an increasing importance to local factors ...

Dual‐Organelle Secretome Conjugation and Organ‐Uptake Tracking (DuO‐SCOUT) Enables Deep and Sensitive Mapping of the Secreted Proteins

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel dual‐organelle proximity labeling platform, DuO‐SCOUT, decodes the complex landscape of systemic organ‐organ communication by capturing both classical and unconventional secretomes. Application in metabolic models maps the adipose‐to‐brain secretory relay, identifying selective extra‐hypothalamic sites for adipose‐derived factors and expanding ...

Encapsulated Leptin‐Producing Cells Facilitate Entrainment of Circadian Rhythms in Rodents and Nonhuman Primates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A clinically translatable cell line can be engineered to produce leptin, encapsulated in biomaterial and safely implanted to produce and deliver the metabolic regulating protein within the body. Implantation of these encapsulated cells decreases the time it takes for mice and non‐human primates to adjust to circadian disruptions similar to those ...
