Expression of three GnRH receptors in specific tissues in male and female sea lampreys Petromyzon marinus at three distinct life stages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Two recently cloned gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors (lamprey GnRH-R-2 and lamprey GnRH-R-3) along with lamprey (l) GnRH-R-1 were shown to share similar structural features and amino acid motifs common to other vertebrate receptors.

Self‐supportive Three‐Way Photoelectrochemical System Achieving Uranium Recycling, Organic Oxidation, and Electricity Generation in Complex Waters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐sustaining solar photoelectrochemical cell (SS‐PEC) is developed to recover uranium from aqueous UO22+ with concurrent organic oxidation and electricity production. The monolithical photoanode directly captures electrons from organic compounds, leading to the oxidation of organic compounds and the decomposition of uranium‐organic complexes ...

Augmented Hypothalamic Corticotrophin-Releasing Hormone mRNA and Corticosterone Responses to Stress in Adult Rats Exposed to Perinatal Hypoxia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Stressful events before or just after parturition alter the subsequent phenotypical response to stress in a general process termed programming. Hypoxia during the period before and during parturition, and in the postnatal period, is one of the most ...

Metal Nanoclusters for Cancer Imaging and Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary and discussion of the core–shell design capabilities of metal nanoclusters (NCs) at the atomic level for cancer imaging and treatment. It offers essential insights into the design principles of metal NCs while also encouraging the exploration of other nanomaterials and their potential theranostic ...

Tunable Synthetic Hydrogel Modulates Hepatic Lineage Specification of Human Liver Organoid

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, a synthetic hydrogel is reported that supports the formation of hiPSC‐derived human liver organoids (HLOs). Hepatic lineage specification can be modulated via conjugation of RGD peptide to hydrogel: RGD‐conjugated hydrogels promote cholangiocyte differentiation, whereas RGD‐free hydrogels favor hepatocyte commitment of HLO cells.

Benchmark for Setting ACTH Cell Dosage in Clinical Regenerative Medicine for Post-Operative Hypopituitarism

open access: yesDiseases
Background/Objectives: Our objective is to develop hormone-producing pituitary cells that can function in the same manner as the human body and provide more effective treatments than current hormone replacement therapy.

Pituitary hypoplasia and growth hormone deficiency in a woman with glycogen storage disease type Ia: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2008
Introduction Growth retardation is one of the cardinal manifestations of glycogen storage disease type Ia. It is unclear which component of the growth hormone and/or insulin-like growth factor axis is primarily disrupted, and management of growth ...

Carbachol increases intracellular free calcium concentrations in human granulosa-lutein cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
We investigated whether the stimulation of human granulosa-lutein cells with muscarinic and nicotinic receptor agonists can cause increases in intracellular free calcium (Ca2+), using Fura-2 microfluorimetry.

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...
