Pentaammineruthenium-guanine complexes

The synthesis of several pentaammineruthenium(I1 and 111)-guanine complexes is reported, in which the metal is believed to be bound to Ni. The Ru(II1) compounds exhibit a broad low energy guanine-to-metal chargetransfer absorption, while the Ru(1I) complexes show a metal-to-ligand charge transfer in the ultraviolet.

It has been clearly established that mature human erythrocytes cannot synthesize de novo purines (1); consequently the turnover of purine nucleotides in red cells must result from the continual entry and release of purines. Hypoxanthine and adenine uptake by human erythrocytes has been studied in our laboratories (2–4).

LINGCOD MUSCLE GUANINE DEAMINASE

The enzyme guanine deaminase was found in lingcod muscle and a study of its properties carried out. In the crude state, two pH optima were found, one of which was lost on purification. Of several guanine analogues tested, only 8-azaguanine was deaminated by the enzyme. A number of compounds were tested as inhibitors. No cofactors were required.
