Transduction Mechanism in Olfaction and Gustation
Nature, 1969THE natures of energy transformations between animals and their environments are poorly understood1 and in particular the mechanisms of olfaction and gustation remain unknown2. Here I report evidence which suggests a quinone-quinol (oxidation-reduction) transduction of stimulant energy from olfactory and gustatory chemicals into the nervous system of ...

AbstractMuch has been discovered over the last few decades about the anatomy and physiology of the human taste system, most notably its receptor mechanisms and intermodal factors that influence its function. While the taste system works in concert with the olfactory, somatosensory, auditory, and visual sensory systems to establish the overall gestalt ...

Terminology. International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Issues in Specialized Communication, 2017
Korean has a large number of taste terms and the paradigm is continuously expanding since the lexicalization operates systematically on a few robust principles. Based on the taste terms collected from lexicons, dictionaries, web-postings, and elsewhere, we classified the terms and analyzed the lexicalization patterns.

Thalamocortical relations in gustation
Brain Research, 1972Abstract The paucity of data on the response of cortical neurons to taste stimulation raised the question of whether thalamic taste neurons do, in fact, project to cortex. In an electrophysiological study of thalamocortical taste projections in the albino rat and cottontop marmoset, the following results were obtained.

Inhibitory Processes in Gustation
Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1969AbstractDifferent salt and acid solutions were applied in pairs with a short intervening water rinse to the tongue of the cat while the summated chorda tympani nerve response was recorded. It was observed that the first exposure usually depressed the response to the following one.

Mechanisms of DEET gustation in Drosophila
Insect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2021DEET is the most widely used active ingredient in insect repellents and offers protection against insect bites. We previously reported that DEET suppresses the feeding behavior of Drosophila, which is guided by gustatory receptors (GRs) in bitter-sensing gustatory receptor neurons.

Flavour and Fragrance Journal, 2001
AbstractTaste is an essential component of flavour. Although taste carries fewer distinctive qualities than odour, it provides an essential base on which aroma builds to generate the widely varying flavour of our foods and beverages. The present review covers a wide range of perceptual/psychophysical topics on taste. The first section reviews the taste
