Influenza A(H5N8) virus isolation in Russia, 2014
Archives of Virology, 2015In this study, we report the isolation of influenza A(H5N8) virus from a Eurasian wigeon (Anas penelope) in Sakha Republic of the Russian Far East. The strain A/wigeon/Sakha/1/2014 (H5N8) has been shown to be pathogenic for mammals. It is similar to the strains that caused outbreaks in wild birds and poultry in Southeast Asia and Europe in 2014.

Heightened risk of H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza
Veterinary Record, 2016SINCE November 3, highly pathogenic avian influenza of subtype H5N8 has been confirmed in dead wild birds in Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland. Reports indicate that this is a more virulent strain than has been seen in recent outbreaks, including H5N8 cases in the USA in 2014/15 and the strain ...

Circulation, Evolution and Transmission of H5N8 virus, 2016–2018
Journal of Infection, 2019A second wave of highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus (HPAIV) H5N8 clade 2.3.4.4 has spread globally, causing outbreaks among wild birds and domestic poultry since autumn 2016. The circulation and evolutionary dynamics of the virus remain largely unknown. We performed surveillance for H5N8 in Qinghai Lake in China since the emergence of the virus ...
