Matrikines are key regulators in modulating the amplitude of lung inflammation in acute pulmonary infection [PDF]
Bioactive matrix fragments (matrikines) have been identified in a myriad of disorders, but their impact on the evolution of airway inflammation has not been demonstrated.

hicap: In Silico Serotyping of the Haemophilus influenzae Capsule Locus
Haemophilus influenzae exclusively colonizes the human nasopharynx and can cause a variety of respiratory infections as well as invasive diseases, including meningitis and sepsis. A key virulence determinant of H. influenzae is the polysaccharide capsule,

Epidemiology of Invasive Haemophilus influenzae Disease, Europe, 2007–2014
We describe the epidemiology of invasive Haemophilus influenzae disease during 2007–2014 in 12 European countries and assess overall H. influenzae disease trends by serotype and patient age. Mean annual notification rate was 0.6 cases/100,000 population,

Resistance decay in individuals after antibiotic exposure in primary care: A systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]
Background Antibiotic resistance is an urgent global problem, but reversibility is poorly understood. We examined the development and decay of bacterial resistance in community patients after antibiotic use.

Transformability of Haemophilus influenzae [PDF]
SUMMARY: A method is described for the preparation of highly competent (transformable) bacteria of Haemophilus influenzae. After three successive treatments, i.e. aerobic growth, anaerobic incubation and incubation in saline containing a few per cent broth, transformation frequencies close to 5% have been obtained.
