Stimulation of Hair Growth by Small Molecules that Activate Autophagy

open access: yesCell Reports, 2019
Summary: Hair plays important roles, ranging from the conservation of body heat to the preservation of psychological well-being. Hair loss or alopecia affects millions worldwide, but methods that can be used to regrow hair are lacking.

A CD14‐Targeting In Situ Hydrogel Directs Macrophage Reprogramming to Minimize Scar Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A CD14‐targeting in situ hydrogel formed from a microbial polysaccharide rapidly remodels the immune microenvironment by reprogramming macrophage polarization, suppressing excessive inflammation, and coordinating tissue regeneration. This multifunctional hydrogel promotes scar‐reduced wound repair through enhanced angiogenesis, collagen remodeling, and

Hair regeneration: Mechano-activation and related therapeutic approaches

open access: yesJournal of Tissue Engineering
Hair regrowth through mechano-stimulation and other therapeutic approaches has emerged as a significant area of research in regenerative medicine. This review examines recent advances in hair regeneration strategies, with a particular focus on mechanical

A Hepatocyte‐to‐Stellate Cell Axis Couples Alternate‐Day Fasting to Liver Fibrosis Resolution via ATG7 S‐Nitrosylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Alternate‐day fasting suppresses mitochondrial complex II assembly via SDHAF4 to upregulate hepatocyte eNOS. The resulting nitric oxide S‐nitrosylates ATG7 at C184 in hepatic stellate cells, restraining autophagic flux and preventing their profibrotic activation.

Macrophages induce AKT/β-catenin-dependent Lgr5+ stem cell activation and hair follicle regeneration through TNF

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Hair can be regenerated after skin wounding. Here the authors show that inflammatory macrophages produce TNF that activates Wnt signalling in hair follicle stem cells to drive this hair regeneration after wound repair in mice.

Single‐Nucleus Transcriptomic Atlas of Human Vellus Hair Pilosebaceous Units Reveals Age‐Associated Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human vellus pilosebaceous units (PSUs) remain uncharted. This single‐nucleus atlas reveals coordinated remodeling of the aging PSU niche: reduced bulge stem cell representation with altered regenerative programs, increased representation of a stress‐responsive channel+ epithelial state, enhanced androgen‐responsive sebaceous programs, reduced ...

Early stages of tooth development in the harbor porpoise Phocoena phocoena

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Here we describe the stages of tooth development in toothed whales on the basis of the harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena). The aim of the study was to find out whether these stages are identical to those of other mammals analyzed so far although toothed whales are homodont and monophyodont.

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) promotes wound re-epithelialisation in frog and human skin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
There remains a critical need for new therapeutics that promote wound healing in patients suffering from chronic skin wounds. This is, in part, due to a shortage of simple, physiologically and clinically relevant test systems for investigating candidate ...
