The Radiation Attenuation Property of High-Density Polyethylene Doped with Zinc Oxide as an Alternative Gonadal Shield

open access: yesRecoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal
Background: The study investigated the radiation attenuation properties of high-density polyethylene doped with zinc oxide as an alternative to the commercially available gonadal shield in different concentrations.

Investigation on radiation shielding parameters of cerrobend alloys

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2017
In this study, to determine the most effective alloy for shielding against gamma-rays, the gamma-ray shielding parameters of six types of cerrobend alloys have been investigated.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Negative Electron-electron Drag Between Narrow Quantum Hall Channels

open access: yes, 1997
Momentum transfer due to Coulomb interaction between two parallel, two-dimensional, narrow, and spatially separated layers, when a current I_{drive} is driven through one layer, is studied in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field B.

Rigorous construction of ground state correlations in graphene: renormalization of the velocities and Ward Identities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We consider the 2D Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice, as a model for single layer graphene with screened Coulomb interactions; at half filling and weak coupling, we construct its ground state correlations by a convergent multiscale expansion ...

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Entanglement entropy scaling in the bilayer Heisenberg spin system

open access: yes, 2014
We examine the entanglement properties of the spin-half Heisenberg model on the two-dimensional square-lattice bilayer based on quantum Monte Carlo calculations of the second R\'enyi entanglement entropy.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Artificial semi-rigid tissue sensitized with natural pigments: Effect of photon radiations

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences, 2011
Background: A new approach for evaluating the optical penetration depth and testing its validity with Monte Carlo simulations and Kubelka-Munk theory is used for artificial semi-rigid tissue sensitized with natural pigments.

Conductivity of disordered graphene at half filling

open access: yes, 2007
We study electron transport properties of a monoatomic graphite layer (graphene) with different types of disorder at half filling. We show that the transport properties of the system depend strongly on the symmetry of disorder.
