Velocity driven haptic rendering

Proceedings of the 3rd international conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques in Australasia and South East Asia, 2005
This paper presents a compact method for improving haptic rendering in virtual environments using Level Of Detail (LOD) with force feedback. We have introduced a velocity driven LOD, a new concept in using LOD in haptics. The aim of this approach differs from using LOD techniques in graphics.

Physically-inspired haptic rendering

Proceedings of the 2006 ACM international conference on Virtual reality continuum and its applications, 2006
Extending the frontier of visual computing, real-time physically-based interactions and haptic (touch-enabled) rendering have the potential to increase the quality of man-machine communication. By accommodating the sense of touch and introducing realistic modeling of physical elements, haptic interfaces provide an attractive augmentation to visual ...

Haptic rendering

Proceedings of the 1995 symposium on Interactive 3D graphics - SI3D '95, 1995
Haptic rendering is the process of computing and generating forces in response to user interactions with virtual objects. Recent efforts by our team at MIT's AI laboratory have resulted in the development of haptic interface devices and algorithms for generating the forces of interaction with virtual objects.

Proxy-based haptic rendering for underactuated haptic devices

2017 IEEE World Haptics Conference (WHC), 2017
Standard haptic rendering algorithms are not well suited for underactuated haptic devices. They compute forces oblivious of underactuation, and then they simply project the resulting forces to the actuated subspace. We propose instead a proxy-based haptic rendering method that computes displacements in the actuated subspace only, and then translates ...

Magnetorheological Brake for Haptic Rendering

2008
This paper addresses the design and characterization of a single-disk magnetorheological fluid brake developed for haptic rendering. An analytical method was used for dimensioning. Brake is tested under constant current and velocity inputs. We observe that torque has a low dependence on velocity and that it has a hysteretic evolution with current as a ...

Image-Driven Haptic Rendering

2014
Haptic interaction requires the content creators to make haptic models of the virtual objects while it is not always possible or feasible, especially when it comes to using real images or videos as elements of interaction. We, therefore, propose tangible images and image-driven haptic rendering where a displayed image is used as a source of the force ...

Haptic Rendering of Juggling with Encountered Type Interfaces

Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments, 2011
Haptic interaction in a virtual world can be tool mediated or direct; and, among direct interactions, the encountered haptic interfaces provide physical contact only when there is contact with a virtual object. This paper deals with the haptic rendering of the catching and throwing of objects by means of this type of interface. A general model for the

A framework for the haptic rendering of the human hand

11th Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems, 2003. HAPTICS 2003. Proceedings., 2003
In this paper we present a framework that allows the haptic rendering of interactions between the human hand and a virtual environment consisting of polygonal objects. The proposed solution creates a representation of the human hand through simple geometric primitives (spheres, cylinders etc.) and allows the fast collision detection and calculation of ...

Perceptual Rendering for Learning Haptic Skills

2008 Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems, 2008
We approach the problem of creating haptic simulators that effectively impart skill without requiring high-fidelity devices by identifying perceptually salient events that signal transitions in the interaction. By augmenting these events, we seek to overcome deficiencies in the fidelity of the rendering hardware.

Visual immersive haptic rendering on the web

Proceedings of The 7th ACM SIGGRAPH International Conference on Virtual-Reality Continuum and Its Applications in Industry, 2008
We propose how to define complex geometry, appearance and tangible physical properties of the X3D and VRML objects using mathematical functions straight in the scene definition code or in loadable libraries. We can also touch and feel surfaces of X3D and VRML objects as well as convert them to solid tangible objects.
