Predicting maximum strain hardening factor in elongational flow of branched pom-pom polymers from polymer architecture

open access: yesNature Communications
We present a model-driven predictive scheme for the uniaxial extensional viscosity and strain hardening of branched polymer melts, specifically for the pom-pom architecture, using the small amplitude oscillatory shear mastercurve and the polymer ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Overview of the theoretical relations between necking and strain localization criteria. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Many criteria have been developed during last decades to predict diffuse or localized necking and shear banding. The lack of confrontation of these models with each other on relevant applications makes their choice difficult for the designer.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Ratcheting Assessment of Medium Carbon and Austenitic Steel Alloys at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
The present study intends to evaluate the ratcheting of ER9 wheel medium carbon steel and austenitic steel samples at room and elevated temperatures subjected to uniaxial loading cycles through the use of the Ahmadzadeh–Varvani (A–V) kinematic hardening ...

Crystal plasticity simulation of the effect of grain size on the fatigue behavior of polycrystalline Inconel 718

open access: yes, 2018
A microstructure-based model that accounts for the effect of grain size has been developed to study the effect of grain size on the fatigue life of Inconel 718 alloys.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Zero-Day Hunter: A Multi-Layered Machine Learning Framework for Real-Time Detection and Mitigation of Zero-Day Cyber Attacks

open access: yesABUAD Journal of Engineering Research and Development
Zero-day attack takes advantage of unknown vulnerability to evade traditional signature-based detection systems. We introduced a novel multi-layered machine learning (ML) framework which we call zeroHunter. The framework integrates cross-layer detection

Critical state constitutive models and shear loading of overconsolidated clays with deviatoric hardening

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2019
This paper presents an enhanced constitutive model integrating deviatoric hardening with a modified yield surface for overconsolidated clayey soils in a general framework of Cam-clay type models.
