Numerical Investigation on Laser Transformation Hardening with Different Temporal Pulse Shapes

open access: yes, 2006
A 3-D numerical model for pulsed laser transformation hardening (LTH) is developed using the finite element method. In this model, laser spatial and temporal intensity distribution, temperature-dependent thermophysical properties of material, and multi ...

Surface heat treatment to improve the metallic hardness via electric arc energy

open access: yesJournal of Science: Advanced Materials and Devices
This study investigates hardness evolution in cylindrical S45C steel subjected to tungsten inner gas (TIG) arc surface hardening and develops a predictive framework based on artificial neural networks (ANN).

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Debonding mechanisms of fully grouted rock bolts driven by adhesive-ring cracking

open access: yesScientific Reports
Interface debonding is the primary failure mode of fully grouted rock bolts, yet the role of adhesive-ring cracking remains insufficiently understood.

Phase-resolved plasticity and interfacial strength govern ductility in TiB2-reinforced steels

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Ceramic-reinforced metal-matrix composites fail through complex interplay of matrix hardening ability, particle fracture, and interfacial debonding. We isolate how duplex-matrix fraction affects this coupling using a steelmaking-compatible model system ...

Plastic load evaluation for a fixed tube sheet heat exchanger subject to proportional loading [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The plastic load of pressurised components can be calculated based on both the twice elastic slope and tangent methods. Both methods are problematic since they rely on parameters that are localised and therefore have a strong dependency on the gradient ...

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Study and Development of High-temperature Inelastic Constitutive Equation for 316H Stainless Steel in Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
This work aims to develop a high-temperature inelastic constitutive formulation for 316H stainless steel in sodium-cooled fast reactor that accurately describes stress-strain response under service temperatures above its significant creep threshold (425 ℃

Caratterizzazione metallurgica dell acciaio inox 15-5 ph fabbricato con processo di rifusione var ed esr [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The purpose of this thesis is to assess difference between the ESR and VAR remelting systems of 15-5PH steel, and subsequent heat treatments of ageing (precipitation hardening) can influence the microstructure of stainless steel 15-5PH, the mechanical ...

Mechanical Properties and Strain Hardening Behaviour of Magnesium Alloys and Composites

open access: yes, 2010
Selected magnesium alloys and composites with magnesium alloy matrix were deformed at temperatures between room temperature and 300 °C at constant strain rate. The testing temperature influences significantly the deformation behaviour of the al/loys. The
