Antibacterial and Oxacillin Resistance Reversing Effect of Harmaline in Different Strains of Staphylococcus Aureus [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Anbar Medical Journal
Background: Harmaline is a naturally occurring indole alkaloid with many medicinal effects. Its antimicrobial effect against different pathogens has been reported previously. Objective: To explore the ability of harmaline to revers oxacillin resistance in

Cannabinoid receptor agonism suppresses tremor, cognition disturbances and anxiety-like behaviors in a rat model of essential tremor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cognitive and motor disturbances are serious consequences of tremor induced by motor disorders. Despite a lack of effective clinical treatment, some potential therapeutic agents have been used to alleviate the cognitive symptoms in the animal models of ...

Effect of Crocus sativus extracts and its active constituent safranal on the harmaline-induced tremor in mice [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2015
Objective(s): Due to unsatisfactory response or intolerable side effects of current drugs, treatment of essential tremor remains inadequate. Thus, we aimed to investigate the protective and therapeutic effects of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Crocus ...

Steady‐state Purkinje cell activity has limited predictive power for cerebellar output in disease

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Cerebellar dysfunction can give rise to various movement disorders. Misfiring cerebellar neurons often underlie this dysfunction. Because Purkinje cells form inhibitory synapses onto cerebellar nuclei cells, it has been presumed that spike activity changes in Purkinje cells cause inverse spike activity changes in the downstream ...

Biosynthetically‐Inspired Oxidative Cleavage Platform Enables Rapid Access to Diverse and Architecturally Complex Chemotypes From Indole Alkaloids

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 4, April 2026.
We report a biosynthesis‐inspired ring distortion approach that involves oxidative ring cleavage, ring rearrangement, and ring expansion reactions from a diverse collection of indole alkaloids and derivatives. This chemical synthesis approach led to the synthesis of >25 distinct chemotypes from 14 indole alkaloids.

Considerations Using Harmaline for a Primate Model of Tremor

open access: yesTremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements, 2021
While harmaline has been used as a pharmacological model of essential tremor (ET) in rodents and pigs, less is known about the effects of this pharmacological treatment in awake-behaving non-human primates. In this study, we investigated the time-course, amplitude, frequency, and consistency of harmaline tremor in primates.Three rhesus macaques were ...

Evaluation of the Bioactive and Technological Potential of Caferana (Bunchosia glandulifera)

open access: yesJournal of Food Biochemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Caferana (Bunchosia glandulifera), one of seven species of the genus Bunchosia identified in the Atlantic Forest, is a plant with expressive bioactive potential that remains underexplored by scientific research. Based on ancestral knowledge and popular traditions that consuming the fruit and infusions made from its roots and leaves may improve physical
