Progress and bottlenecks in the early domestication of the perennial oilseed Silphium integrifolium, a sunflower substitute [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Silflower (Silphium integrifolium Michx.) is in the early stages of domestication as a perennial version of oilseed sunflower, its close relative. Grain crops with deep perennial root systems will provide farmers with new alternatives for managing soil ...

Studies on the Varietal Difference of Harvest Index in Rice. Relationship between harvest index and dry matter production.

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Crop Science, 2000
Varietal differences harvest index (HI) and yield (Y) were examined using 60 Japanese varieties (J group) and 20 high-yielding varieties bred in Asian countries (H group). HI varied from 36.8% to 53.4%. Mean values of HI were 43.5% in the J group and 48.8% in the H group. Y ranged form 22.6g/plant to 40.0g/plant.

Developing an Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-Based Prediction Model for the Rice Harvest Index Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAgriculture
(1) Background: The harvest index is important for measuring the correlation between grain yield and aboveground biomass. However, the harvest index can only be measured after a mature harvest.

Assessing the Harvest Maturity of Brazilian Mangoes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
No clear criterion exists to determine the optimum time to harvest mango. Some empirical relations are used to assess maturity, such as shoulder development.

How Planting Density Affects Number and Yield of Potato Minitubers in a Commercial Glasshouse Production System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Commercial potato minituber production systems aim at high tuber numbers per plant. This study investigated by which mechanisms planting density (25.0, 62.5 and 145.8 plants/m2) of in vitro derived plantlets affected minituber yield and minituber number ...

Improving pear (Pyrus spp.) harvest maturity assessment: Integration of color composite indicators and sophisticated multivariate analysis techniques

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Predicting the appropriate maturity index for pear fruit at the time of harvest is crucial for preventing post-harvest losses and preserving fruit quality.

Responses of grain yield, biomass and harvest index and their rates of genetic progress to nitrogen availability in ten winter wheat varieties. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
peer-reviewedIncreased yields in winter wheat cultivars have been found to be largely attributable to improved partitioning of biomass to the grain, i.e., higher harvest index.

Sugar maple (Acer saccharum March.) growth is influenced by close conspecifics and skid trait proximity following selection harvest [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this study, we quantified the effects of local neighbourhood competition, light availability, and proximity to skid trails on the growth of sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.) trees following selection harvest.
