Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Addressing potential sources of variation in several non-destructive techniques for measuring firmness in apples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Measurements of firmness have traditionally been carried out according to the Magness Taylor (MT) procedure; using a texture analyser or penetrometer in reference texture tests.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Components of genetic variance and interrelationship among quantitative traits in CAZRI-bred inbred restorers of pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2013
Genetic variation, heritability, genetic advance and association among various traits were investigated in a set of 47 inbred restorer lines developed under inbred development programme at CAZRI, Jodhpur.

Grain legume nitrogen fixation and balance model for use in practical (organic) agriculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In extensive agricultural systems, i.g. organic farming, nutrient balance calculations are of high importance. Common calculation models for nitrogen fixation of grain legumes are either of far too much complexity especially for use in agricultural ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Grain Yield and its Components of Triticale as Affected by Silicon Foliar Application, Nitrogen Fertilizer and Water Stress in Reproductive Phase [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهشهای زراعی ایران, 2020
Introduction In the dry climate of southern Iran including Fars province, most precipitation occurs in winter, thus winter cereals such as triticale (Triticosecale Wittmack) experience water shortage at booting, flowering and grain filling stages in ...

Macroeconomic effects of disruptions in global food commodity markets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We use two approaches to examine the macroeconomic consequences of disruptions in global food commodity markets. First, we embed a novel quarterly composite global production index for the four basic staples (corn, wheat, rice and soybeans) in a standard
