Potential of HBx Gene for Hepatocarcinogenesis in Noncirrhotic Liver
Seminars in Liver Disease, 2021AbstractCurrent treatments for hepatitis B virus (HBV) using nucleos(t)ide analogs cannot eliminate the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. As HBV-associated HCC can develop even in the absence of liver cirrhosis, HBV is regarded to possess direct oncogenic potential.

HDM2 Promotes NEDDylation of Hepatitis B Virus HBx To Enhance Its Stability and Function.
Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-encoded X protein (HBx) plays a critical role in HBV-related hepatocarcinoma development. In this study, we demonstrate that HBx is specifically modified by NEDD8.

<i>Background/Aims:</i> Transgenic mice overexpressing hepatitis B x protein (HBx) show an increased susceptibility to mutations if exposed to mutagens. Also involved in HBx signalling, reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) can induce DNA adducts such as 8-hydroxy-2′-deoxyguanosine that can in turn lead to G/T transversion mutations ...

RNAi-Based Knockdown of HBx mRNA in HBx-Transformed and HBV-Producing Human Liver Cells
DNA and Cell Biology, 2006RNA interference (RNAi) is the process of sequence-specific gene silencing induced by 21-23-nt RNA of small interfering RNA (siRNA). The HBx of hepatitis B virus (HBV) causing human liver diseases has been known as a multifunctional protein which affects transcription, cell growth, and apoptotic cell death.

The effect of HBx gene on the apoptosis of hepatic cells
Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 2007To study the effect of HBx gene on the apoptosis of the cell lines (L02, HepG2) and the interaction between HBx and X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP), the apoptosis of pcDNA3.1-HBx transiently transfected cell lines (L02, HepG2) was detected by flow cytometry and the mRNA expression of XIAP was assayed by real-time RT-PCR. Our study showed

HBx Protein Potentiates Hepatitis B Virus Reactivation
Molecular Biology, 2022Hepatitis B virus (HBV) can cause chronic hepatitis B, one of the most prevalent infectious diseases in the world. Global estimates suggest that over 2 billion people are affected by HBV, with over 250 million people developing chronic infection. Upon treatment of comorbidities, patients with chronic infection may develop an abrupt increase of viral ...

Understanding the function of the hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx) is fundamental to elucidating the underlying mechanisms of hepatitis and hepatocarcinogenesis caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. We identified heat shock protein 60 (Hsp60) as a novel cellular target of HBx by the combination of affinity purification and mass spectrometry ...

The role of NeuroD1 in the upregulation of SMYD3 by HBx.
Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2012183 Background: SET and MYND Domain-Containing Protein 3 (SMYD3) is frequently overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) exhibiting increased malignant phenotypes. It has also been known that the hepatitis B virus x protein (HBx) is strongly associated with HCC development and progression.

HBx-elevated SIRT2 promotes HBV replication and hepatocarcinogenesis
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2018Sirtuin 2 (SIRT2) is a class III histone deacetylase that has been implicated to promote HCC development. However, the functional role of SIRT2 in HBV is still unclear. In this study, we found that HBV could upregulate SIRT2 expression. Additionally, HBx could activate SIRT2 promoter to upregulate the mRNA and protein level of SIRT2.

Stronger activation of SREBP-1a by nucleus-localized HBx
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2015We previously showed that hepatitis B virus (HBV) X protein activates the sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1a (SREBP-1a). Here we examined the role of nuclear localization of HBx in this process. In comparison to the wild-type and cytoplasmic HBx, nuclear HBx had stronger effects on SREBP-1a and fatty acid synthase transcription activation ...
