Familial hCG Syndrome

Journal of Reproductive Immunology, 2012
An explanation is needed for why some men and women show positive in hCG screening tests when they are not pregnant, do not have cancer and are otherwise asymptomatic. In this study, a total of 10 families comprising 30 persons with a history of positive hCG tests were investigated.

hCG in Ectopic Pregnancy

Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2012
Ectopic pregnancies remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality in women of reproductive age. Management of these pregnancies has changed dramatically over the years. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone composed of 2 dissimilar subunits, alpha and beta, joined non-covalently.

Hyperglycosylated hCG, a review

Placenta, 2010
Hyperglycosylated hCG (hCG-H) is a glycoprotein with the same polypeptide structure as hCG, and much larger N- and O-linked oligosaccharides. The oligosaccharides increase the molecular weight of hCG from 36,000 - 37,000 u to 40,000 - 41,000 u, depending on the extent of hyperglycosylation.

hCG attenuates hyperglycosylated hCG-driven growth and invasion.

Journal of Molecular Oncology Research, 2018
Objective: To determine the role of the hormone hCG in pregnancy, choriocarcinoma and cancer cell growth and invasion. Methods: Third trimester placenta cytotrophoblast primary cultures, two choriocarcinoma cell lines, and one trophoblastic cancer and 5 non-trophoblastic cancer cell lines.

Clinical use of HCG and hCG beta determinations.

Scandinavian journal of clinical and laboratory investigation. Supplementum, 1993
Recent advances in our understanding of hCG/hCG beta synthesis by trophoblastic and nontrophoblastic tissues together with improved techniques for measuring hCG have helped to define the role of hCG as a clinical marker. HCG determination by sensitive immunometric assay enables detection of hCG immunoreactivity in normal men and women.

Clinical Applications of hCG

1984
The concept of tumor markers has widened in recent years. In the 1950s and 1960s we thought of them primarily as means of detecting and monitoring tumors. In the past decade their potential value at the immunocytochemical level has become more evident, and now the possibilities of in vivo localization with antibodies and of drug targeting have come ...
