Is there a role for cannabidiol in obesity, metabolic syndrome and binge eating?

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most abundant phytocannabinoids isolated from the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD is a lipophilic, non‐intoxicating substance that differently from Δ9‐tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9‐THC) does not present the typical profile of a drug of abuse.

Relative expression of ANGPTL7 in HCKs and HDFs.

open access: yes, 2015
AKR1B10, GRP, ANGPTL7, and PIP levels were elevated in the cDNA derived from HCKs as compared to with that from HDFs (A). In western blot analysis, ANGPTL7 was detected in culture media collected from HCKs but not i HDFs (B). N = 3 per condition.

Unravelling polyphenol skin permeation: A comparative study using full‐thickness 3D in vitro and ex vivo human skin models

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that full‐thickness 3D in vitro skin models reliably assess the permeation of cosmetic polyphenols, revealing compound‐specific transport profiles and bridging the gap between conventional cell models and ex vivo human skin, while offering an ethical and robust alternative for dermal absorption screening. Abstract The evaluation

Methods for substituting onsite ambient ultraviolet radiation measurements for personal exposure studies

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Three methods for substituting on‐site ambient ultraviolet radiation measurements for personal exposure measurements were investigated. Assuming spatial persistency of measurements from high‐grade instruments delivers lowest uncertainties up to distances of 82 km.

Understanding exosomes in facial esthetics and skin aging

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Skin aging is a multifactorial process mediated by intrinsic (genetic and metabolic) and extrinsic (environmental) factors leading to functional and structural deterioration, including wrinkles, loss of collagen and elastin, as well as various pigmentation disorders.

Improving metadata management for small files in HDFS

open access: yes, 2009
Scientific applications are adapting HDFS/MapReduce to perform large scale data analytics. One of the major challenges is that an overabundance of small files is common in these applications, and HDFS manages all its files through a single server, the ...

Scaling HDFS with a Strongly Consistent Relational Model for Metadata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
International audienceThe Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) scales to store tens of petabytes of data despite the fact that the entire file system’s metadata must fit on the heap of a single Java virtual machine. The size of HDFS’ metadata is limited

Small molecules as arthropod kinin receptor antagonists, feeding modulators, or novel mosquitocidal agents

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 6842-6863, July 2026.
A two‐pronged screen of small molecules – (1) on recombinant kinin receptor and (2) through topical application – identifies kinin receptor antagonists, feeding behavior modulators, and new mosquitocidal molecules. Abstract BACKGROUND Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes are primary vectors for numerous human and animal pathogens and ...
