Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Development and Validation of a Pathomics Model Using Machine Learning to Predict Expression and Prognosis in Head and Neck Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology
Objectives. The necessity to develop a method for prognostication and to identify novel biomarkers for personalized medicine in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cannot be overstated.

Risk Factors for the Development of Malignant Tumors of the Head and Neck

open access: yesЭпидемиология и вакцинопрофилактика, 2021
Relevance. Recently, there has been an increase in the incidence of head and neck cancer throughout. Head and neck cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, accounting for 5-10% of all cancers in the world. In the structure of cancer it takes 8th

HYDROXYUREA: A RADIOSENSITIZER IN THE TREATMENT OF NEOPLASMS OF THE HEAD AND NECK [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Roentgenology, 1969
Forty patients were treated in a double blind study utilizing Hydroxyurea. Those treated with Hydroxyurea, irradiation and surgery achieved complete eradication of tumor. The most notable contribution of Hydroxyurea appeared to be the extensive necrosis, radiation effect, and destruction beyond any recognition of tumor in lymph nodes.Forty-five cases ...

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Dietary habits, ethanol and tobacco consumption as predictive factors in the development of esophageal carcinoma in patients with head and neck neoplasms.

open access: yesDiseases of the esophagus, 2008
Patients with primary head and neck cancers have a higher risk of developing esophageal cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate esophageal cancer prevalence, its risk factors (ethanol and tobacco consumption) and dietary habits in patients with ...

Sternocleidomastoid Pseudotumor Of Infancy: A Report Of Thirteen Cases

open access: yesJournal of the Belgian Society of Radiology, 2012
Sternocleidomastoid tumor of infancy (SCMTI) is a rare cause of benign neck masses in neonates and infants. It has to be differentiated from other congenital space-occupying lesions in the cervical region.

Trends of oral cavity, oropharyngeal and laryngeal cancer incidence in Scotland (1975 - 2012) - a socioeconomic perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Aim: To examine current incidence trends (1975–2012) of oral cavity (OCC), oropharyngeal (OPC) and laryngeal cancer in Scotland by socioeconomic status (SES). Methods: We included all diagnosed cases of OCC (C00.3-C00.9, C02-C06 excluding C2.4),

CircCCNB1 inhibits vasculogenic mimicry by sequestering NF90 to promote miR‐15b‐5p and miR‐7‐1‐3p processing in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CircCCNB1 expression is down‐regulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); thus, less NF90 protein is bound to circCCNB1 and more binds to pri‐miRNAs, blocking their (pri‐miRNAs) binding to DGCR8 and inhibiting the processing and generation of miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p. Furthermore, decreased miR‐15b‐5p/miR‐7‐1‐3p promotes the expression of the target genes

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.
