Weight Loss in Obese Patients With Heart Failure

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
BackgroundIn heart failure (HF), weight loss (WL) has been associated with an adverse prognosis whereas obesity has been linked to lower mortality (the obesity paradox). The impact of WL in obese patients with HF is incompletely understood. Our objective

‘Mitotherapy’ for Heart Failure

open access: yesTrends in Molecular Medicine, 2016
Abnormalities in mitochondrial dynamics along with those for the molecular mediators involved are presently being viewed with increased interest in the field of cardiovascular disease. Recent research highlights OPA1, a dynamin-like GTPase mediating mitochondrial fusion, as well as the 'mitoproteases' OMA1 and YME1L, as potential therapeutic targets ...

Electrical pulse stimulation reflecting the episodic nature of real‐life exercise modulates metabolic and secretory profile of primary human myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Here, we introduced an intermittent electrical stimulation protocol mimicking the episodic nature of real‐life exercise in vitro by alternating low‐ and high‐frequency stimulation. In comparison with widely used continuous stimulation, it enhanced the rate of glucose and fatty acid oxidation, but not the myokine release.

Single Center Experience With Impella 5.5 for Escalation and De-Escalation of Cardiogenic Shock Patients

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology
Temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) devices are a critical component for treating patients with cardiogenic shock (CS). We analyzed use of Impella 5.5 device for efficacy and safety in a single-center CS population from February 2022 and ...

Performance Evaluation of a Preclinical SPECT Scanner with a Collimator Designed for Medium-Sized Animals

open access: yesMolecular Imaging, 2022
Background. Equipped with two stationary detectors, a large bore collimator for medium-sized animals has been recently introduced for dedicated preclinical single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging.

Berberine–cinnamic acid co‐crystal effect in ameliorating hyperlipidemia might be regulated through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR/SREBP‐1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Berberine–cinnamic acid co‐crystal (BBR‐CA) inhibits the phosphorylation of the phosphatidylinositol 3‐kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway, suppressing the transfer of pre‐sterol regulatory element‐binding proteins‐1 (SREBP‐1) from the endoplasmic reticulum to the nucleus. This results in a decrease in the expression level of

Association between the Length of Hospital Stay and 30-Day Outcomes in Patients Admitted with Acute Decompensated Heart Failure

open access: yesEmergency Medicine International, 2023
Background and Aim. Regarding patients admitted with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF), there are inconsistent reports surrounding the association between length of stay (LOS) and mortality or rehospitalization following discharge.

Dapagliflozin in heart failure with preserved and mildly reduced ejection fraction: rationale and design of the DELIVER trial

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, 2021
Sodium–glucose co‐transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, originally developed as glucose‐lowering agents, have been shown to reduce heart failure hospitalizations in patients with type 2 diabetes without established heart failure, and in patients with heart ...

Lungs in Heart Failure [PDF]

open access: yesPulmonary Medicine, 2012
Lung function abnormalities both at rest and during exercise are frequently observed in patients with chronic heart failure, also in the absence of respiratory disease. Alterations of respiratory mechanics and of gas exchange capacity are strictly related to heart failure.
