Modelling of Flow and Heat Transfer in Spent Fuel Cooling Ponds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
With increased interest in Nuclear power generation and the issues of storing legacy fuels being apparent there is a real need to understand the heat transfer mechanisms involved in storing spent fuel within water filled cooling ponds.

Application of the Discrete Ordinates Method to Compute Radiant Heat Loss in a Diesel Engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
A three-dimensional model for computing flows, sprays, and combustion in internal combustion engines is modified to include radiant heat loss. Radiant heat loss is computed by solving the radiative transport equation using a discrete ordinates ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Development of On-Board In-Cylinder Gas Flow Model for Heat Loss Estimation of Diesel Engines

open access: yesJIRAE (International Journal of Industrial Research and Applied Engineering), 2018
Diesel engines have been demanded to further increase the thermal efficiency through precise engine control under transient driving conditions, especially, it is essential to optimize the fuel injection timing and quantity cycle-by-cycle. Conventionally,

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Thermal physiology of selected African ungulates with emphasis on the physical properties of the pelage [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The ungulates include some of the largest land animals and, in consequence, they cannot avoid climatic stress as do small mammals. A great deal of information concerning the physiology of thermoregulation in domestic ungulates is available but relatively

Geographic and temporal variations in turbulent heat loss from lakes: a global analysis across 45 lakes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Heat fluxes at the lake surface play an integral part in determining the energy budget and thermal structure in lakes, including regulating how lakes respond to climate change.

Development of On-board Polytropic Index Prediction Model for Injection Timing Optimization of Diesel Engines

open access: yesJIRAE (International Journal of Industrial Research and Applied Engineering), 2018
Diesel engines are required to reduce exhaust emissions during real-world operations. In this regard, a new control concept called model-based control has been explored.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.
