Effects of physical treatment of barley and rapeseed meal in dairy cows given grass silage-based diets

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 2008
Twenty-four Ayrshire cows were used to study the effects of physical treatment of barley, rapeseed meal (RSM) supplementation and heat-moisture treatment of RSM on silage intake and milk production.

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Wooden cladding boards in cyclic moisture conditions : studies of cupping, moisture distribution and swelling stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
One reason for the decreased durability of modern claddings is considered to be the use of deformation-sensitive cladding boards. At the end of the nineteenth century cladding boards were about 40 mm thick, whereas present-day instructions recommend ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
