Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.

Using supramolecular monomers, various hydrogel culture systems were formulated to culture protoplasts; including 2D, 2.5D, and 3D hydrogels. Depending on the culture platform, bioactive functionalization led to protoplast enlargement (2D and 2.5D) or plasmolysis (3D). This work shows the potential to modularly engineer synthetic platforms for cellular

Rapid Sensing of Heat Stress using Machine Learning of Micrographs of Red Blood Cells Dispersed in Liquid Crystals [PDF]
An imbalance between bodily heat production and heat dissipation leads to heat stress in organisms. In addition to diminished animal well-being, heat stress is detrimental to the poultry industry as poultry entails fast growth and high yield, resulting in greater metabolic activity and higher body heat production.

Influence of ensemble boundary conditions (thermostat and barostat) on the deformation of amorphous polyethylene by molecular dynamics [PDF]
Molecular dynamics simulations are increasingly being used to investigate the structural evolution of polymers during mechanical deformation, but relatively few studies focus on the influence of boundary conditions on this evolution, in particular the dissipation of both heat and pressure through the periodic boundaries during deformation. The research
