How can heat stress affect chicken meat quality? ‐ a review

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
Heat stress is one of the most important environmental stressors for the poultry industry in the world. Reduced growth rate, low feed efficiency, impaired immunological responses, changes in intestinal microflora, and deterioration of meat quality are ...

Heat risk assessment for the Brussels capital region under different urban planning and greenhouse gas emission scenarios [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Urban residents are exposed to higher levels of heat stress in comparison to the rural population. As this phenomenon could be enhanced by both global greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and urban expansion, urban planners and policymakers should integrate ...

Unveiling unique protein and phosphorylation signatures in lung adenocarcinomas with and without ALK, EGFR, and KRAS genetic alterations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses were performed on lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tumors with EGFR, KRAS, or EML4–ALK alterations and wild‐type cases. Distinct protein expression and phosphorylation patterns were identified, especially in EGFR‐mutated tumors. Key altered pathways included vesicle transport and RNA splicing.

Heat stress directly impairs gut integrity and recruits distinct immune cell populations into the bovine intestine

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2019
Significance Consequences of heat stress, particularly for the immune system and the intestinal health of mammals, are a topic of increasing global relevance due to rising temperatures and potential health impairments.

Olaparib synergy screen reveals Exemestane induces replication stress in triple‐negative breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Screening 166 FDA‐approved anticancer drugs identifies the aromatase inhibitor Exemestane as a synergistic partner of PARP inhibitor Olaparib in BRCA‐proficient triple‐negative breast cancer. Exemestane induces ROS‐mediated replication stress, enhancing DNA damage and apoptosis alongside Olaparib.

Male Sterility in Maize after Transient Heat Stress during the Tetrad Stage of Pollen Development1[OPEN]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2019
Short moderate heat stress during the tetrad stage of pollen development targets vital metabolic pathways, ultimately leading to sterility and yield losses in maize. Shifts in the duration and intensity of ambient temperature impair plant development and

On thermal stress failure of the SNAP-19A RTG heat shield [PDF]

open access: yes
Results of a study on thermal stress problems in an amorphous graphite heat shield that is part of the launch-abort protect system for the SNAP-19A radio-isotope thermoelectric generators (RTG) that will be used on the Viking Mars Lander are presended ...

Polymorphisms of Bovine HSP90 and Their Implications in Beef Cattle Productivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Production of beef cattle represents a $60 billion industry in the United States (USDA, 2015). The American beef cattle industry loses an estimated $370 million annually due to heat stress (St-Pierre, 2003).

RKIP overexpression reduces lung adenocarcinoma aggressiveness and sensitizes cells to EGFR‐targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RKIP, a metastasis suppressor protein, modulates key oncogenic pathways in lung adenocarcinoma. In silico analyses linked low RKIP expression to poor survival. Functional studies revealed RKIP overexpression reduces tumor aggressiveness and enhances sensitivity to EGFR‐targeted therapies, while its loss promotes resistance.
