Fuel Weight Fraction Estimation for a Disk–Rotor Hybrid Aircraft Along an Optimal Flight Trajectory During Concept Design

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Owing to the transition flight of rotor/wing hybrid vertical take‐off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, the fuel weight cannot be estimated from empirical data during the conceptual design phase. This paper proposes a method for estimating the minimal fuel weight fraction (FWF) through a strategy of trajectory optimization under a given flight profile.

Power Level Influence on Architecture of Small Helicopter Turboshaft Engines [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 2: Aircraft Engine; Marine; Microturbines and Small Turbomachinery, 1986
In the field of helicopter turboshaft engines, TURBOMECA is present in the range of 400 to 1 600 kW with four new engines, all under development. Naturally all these engines, born of a same general philosophy, have a pronounced ≪family likeness≫ from the general mechanical and aerodynamic point of view.

The effect of heat recovery on the optimal values of helicopter turboshaft engine parameters

open access: yesVESTNIK of Samara University. Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, 2020
Recent studies related to fuel economy in air transport conducted in our country and abroad show that the use of recuperative heat exchangers in aviation gas turbine engines can significantly, by up to 20...30%, reduce fuel consumption. Until recently, the use of cycles with heat recovery in aircraft gas turbine engines was restrained by a significant ...
