Formation of noninfectious viral hemagglutinins in ascites tumor cells

Virology, 1960
Abstract The replication of influenza virus in two strains of ascites tumor cells, Ehrlich's and Krebs 2, in vitro and in the mouse peritoneum was compared with growth of this virus in roller tube suspensions of minced chorioallantoic membrane. Extended incubation of tumor cells with influenza or Newcastle viruses resulted in a progressive cell ...

The uncleaved viral hemagglutinin HA0 increases influenza A virus resistance to thermal pasteurization

Virology
Two biological types of influenza virus are known and distinguished by the structure of the surface glycoprotein, hemagglutinin (HA). The noninfectious virions contain the uncleaved HA0 (80 kDa), whereas the infectious type have a cleaved form of two subunits, HA1 (55 kDa) and HA2 (25 kDa).

Release of viral hemagglutinin and nucleocapsid components after disruption of Sindbis virus with ether

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1971
Purified Sindbis virus is split into two components upon treatment with ether. These are (a) a hemagglutinin which sediments at 55 S and is non-infectious. This fraction was shown to be devoid of phospholipid and to contain the envelope structural protein of the virion; (b) a fraction sedimenting at 135 S, which is devoid of RNA, but contains viral ...

Headless hemagglutinin-containing influenza viral particles direct immune responses toward more conserved epitopes

Journal of Virology
ABSTRACT Seasonal influenza vaccines provide mostly strain-specific protection due to the elicitation of antibody responses focused on evolutionarily plastic antigenic sites in the hemagglutinin head domain. To direct the humoral response toward more conserved epitopes, we generated an influenza virus particle where ...

Sialic acid is incorporated into influenza hemagglutinin glycoproteins in the absence of viral neuraminidase

Virus Research, 1985
We have analyzed the pronase-derived glycopeptides of the hemagglutinin glycoproteins expressed from SV40 vectors carrying cloned cDNA copies of the HA gene and of HA isolated from influenza virions (A/Jap/305/57). The glycopeptides derived from he HA glycoprotein obtained from cloned genes were heterogeneous, ranging in size from 3800 to 2800 daltons.

Identification of immunodominant CD8 epitope in the stalk domain of influenza B viral hemagglutinin

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2018
Human infections by type B influenza virus constitute about 25% of all influenza cases. The viral hemagglutinin is comprised of two subunits, HA1 and HA2. While HA1 is constantly evolving in an unpredictable fashion, the HA2 subunit is highly conserved, making it a potential candidate for a universal vaccine. However, immunodominant epitopes in the HA2

Isoxazole and Pyrazole Derivatives of 28‐Oxo‐Allobetulone Target Viral Membrane Glycoprotein Hemagglutinin

Chemical Biology & Drug Design
ABSTRACTA series of [2,3]‐isoxazoles and pyrazole annulated with the A‐ring of lupane, oleanane, and ursane type triterpenoids was synthesized and screened for antiviral activity. It was found that 28‐oxo‐allobetulone isoxazole 4 with IC50 7.3 μM (SI 86) and pyrazole 5 with IC50 62.1 μM (SI 10) demonstrated a high inhibitory activity against Flu A ...

Influenza viral hemagglutinin complicated shape is advantageous to its binding affinity for sialosaccharide receptor

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2007
Do the complexity and the bulkiness of a protein affect the affinity between protein and ligand? We attempted to investigate this problem by using ab initio fragment molecular orbital (FMO) method to calculate the binding energy between human influenza viral hemagglutinin (HA) and human oligo-saccharide receptor.
