Hematopoietic stem cell metabolism and stemness

open access: yesBlood Science, 2019
AbstractHematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are considered to originate from the aorta-gonad-mesonephros, migrate into fetal liver for a rapid expansion, and eventually reside into a unique hypoxic bone marrow niche, where they maintain their homeostasis throughout their life span.

MiR‐513a promotes human erythroid differentiation by modulating c‐Jun

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
During early human erythropoiesis, miR‐513a promoted erythroid differentiation in primary human CD34+ hematopoietic stem‐progenitor cells and human TF‐1 erythroleukemic cells by indirectly decreasing c‐Jun and phospho‐c‐Jun expression, which are associated with increased GATA1 expression.

Leukemia cell microvesicles promote survival in umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Microvesicles can transfer their contents, proteins and RNA, to target cells and thereby transform them. This may induce apoptosis or survival depending on cell origin and the target cell.

Entropy, Ergodicity and Stem Cell Multipotency

open access: yes, 2015
Populations of mammalian stem cells commonly exhibit considerable cell-cell variability. However, the functional role of this diversity is unclear. Here, we analyze expression fluctuations of the stem cell surface marker Sca1 in mouse hematopoietic ...

EBF1-deficient bone marrow stroma elicits persistent changes in HSC potential

open access: yes, 2020
Crosstalk between mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) is essential for hematopoietic homeostasis and lineage output. Here, we investigate how transcriptional changes in bone marrow (BM) MSCs result in long-lasting effects

Blood and Cancer: Cancer Stem Cells as Origin of Hematopoietic Cells in Solid Tumor Microenvironments

open access: yesCells, 2020
The concepts of hematopoiesis and the generation of blood and immune cells from hematopoietic stem cells are some steady concepts in the field of hematology.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Pvr expression regulators in equilibrium signal control and maintenance of Drosophila blood progenitors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Blood progenitors within the lymph gland, a larval organ that supports hematopoiesis in Drosophila melanogaster, are maintained by integrating signals emanating from niche-like cells and those from differentiating blood cells.

Prognostic Impact of European LeukemiaNet Genetic Risk Stratification System in Adult Patients With Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of ELN2017 in predicting survival outcomes and to assess the impact of clinical and molecular factors such as age, FLT3 and NPM1 mutations, and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT).
