Synthetic studies in aromatic hemiterpenes of natural origin, Part 5: Synthesis of 6-acetyl-2,2-dimethyl-8-methoxychromene via benzylic oxidation route

open access: yesProceedings / Indian Academy of Sciences, 1979
The synthesis of 6-acetyl-2,2-dimethyl-8-methoxychromene (1c), a naturally occurring isomer of encecalin (1a) has been described starting from 2,2,6-trimethyl-8-methoxychromene (2e) which was obtained from creosol (4) in two steps involving condensation of the phenol with malic acid to the coumarin (3), followed by Grignard reaction with CH2MgI.

Development of a transcription factor-based biosensor strain for reporting α-terpineol production via the alcohol-dependent hemiterpene pathway in Escherichia coli

open access: yesRSC Chemical Biology
Terpenes constitute a vast and industrially important class of natural products. Yet, microbial production of many high-value terpenoids remains limited by the difficulty of rationally engineering their biosynthetic pathways and the lack of high ...

The Biogenesis of Terpenes

open access: yes, 1953
The name "terpenes" has been applied to a group of compounds distinguished by a singular chemical composition. Their empirical formula contains a multiple of five carbon atoms, and their chemical structure can be described as consisting of isopentane ...

New Hemiterpene Glycosides in Vitis vinifera Wine

Journal of Natural Products, 1997
Two new hemiterpene glycosides were isolated from a Vitis vinifera cv. Gewurztraminer wine and were identified by mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy as O-β-d-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-d-glucopyranosides of 3-methyl-2-butenol (1) and of 3-methyl-3-butenol (3).
