Beneficial non-anticoagulant mechanisms underlying heparin treatment of COVID-19 patients

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2020
Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is associated with severe inflammation in mainly the lung, and kidney. Reports suggest a beneficial effect of the use of heparin/low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) on mortality in COVID-19.

Ultra‐Radiostable Covalent Conformationally Interlocked Networks Enabling a Universal Radiometal‐Labeling Platform for Cancer Radioembolization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conjugated poly(imide dioxime)‐based microspheres establish a radiometal coordination‐driven conformational interlocked network with ultra‐high radiostability. This platform enables low‐temperature, multi‐radionuclide labeling for SPECT/PET/MRI imaging and radionuclide therapy. Mechanistic insights from EXAFS and DFT reveal enhanced stability, while in

The anti-factor Xa range for low molecular weight heparin thromboprophylaxis

open access: yesHematology Reports, 2015
Low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs) are now the mainstay option in the prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism. In some patients receiving therapeutic doses of LMWH, activity can be measured by quantifying the presence of Anti-factor Xa ...

THBS1+ Macrophages Exacerbate Modic Changes via SDC4‐Dependent Activation of NLRP3 Inflammasome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The illustration of THBS1+ macrophages exacerbate MCs via SDC4‐dependent activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. THBS1+ macrophage subpopulation was identified in MCs through single‐cell RNA sequencing. C. acnes and its metabolites activate THBS1 expression in macrophages via the TLR signaling pathway.

Thromboprophylaxis during pregnancy for prevention of adverse complications in patients with inherited thrombophilia: a literature review [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical & Clinical Research
Compared with non-pregnant women, pregnancy alone carries a three- to fivefold higher risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Despite the increasing use of low-molecular-weight heparin in identified high-risk patients, pulmonary embolism is still the ...

Psychological Stress Associated Bile Acid Reprogramming Promotes Hepatocellular Carcinoma Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Depression is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for chronic diseases, yet its biological impact on cancer remains unclear. Using data from more than 490 000 participants across three international cohorts, we show that depression significantly increases the risk of liver cancer.

Bioengineered Exosome‐Loaded Immunomodulatory Bioadhesive Spray Reverses Liver Fibrosis and Metabolic Dysfunction That Triggers Beneficial Gut‐Liver Crosstalk in Chronic Fatty Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Umbilical cord stem cell‐derived exosomes encapsulated in an immunomodulatory bioadhesive hydrogel spray enable localized therapy, sustained vesicle delivery, macrophage polarization, suppress systemic inflammation, and mitigate glucose and insulin homeostasis impairments in MAFLD.

A Spatially Directed Microneedle Patch Enables Intratumoral Co‐Delivery of FOLFIRINOX, Surufatinib, and Anti‐PD‐1 for Chemo‐Immunotherapy of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A double‐layered shell‐core microneedle patch is developed to co‐deliver FOLFIRINOX, surufatinib, and anti‐PD‐1 for localized chemo‐immunotherapy of PDAC. This strategy achieves sustained tumor suppression, reduces metastasis, and reprograms the TME by enhancing CD8+ T‐cell infiltration and inhibiting Tregs and M2 macrophages infiltration, while ...

RPLP2 Mediates the Beneficial Effects of Exercise on Stress Resistance Through Muscle–Brain Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel exercise‐inducible myokine acidic ribosomal protein P2 (RPLP2), initially identified from human trials, is presented here, whose circulating levels negatively correlate with clinical anxiety severity. Muscle‐derived RPLP2 enhances hippocampal ribosomal assembly and adult neurogenesis to rescue stress‐induced anxiety deficits.
