Nuclear Factor I‐B Delays Liver Fibrosis by Inhibiting Chemokine Ligand 5 Transcription

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies the transcription factor Nuclear Factor I‐B (NFIB) as a key suppressor of liver fibrosis. NFIB expression declines during hepatic stellate cell activation, and its overexpression reduces fibrosis in mice models. The mechanism involves NFIB directly repressing chemokine C─C motif ligand 5 (CCL5), thereby alleviating oxidative ...

Effects of dietary retinoid and triglyceride on the lipid composition of rat liver stellate cells and stellate cell lipid droplets

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1988
Hepatic stellate cells store the majority of the liver's retinoid (vitamin A) reserves as retinyl esters in stellate cell lipid droplets. A study was conducted to explore the effects of differences in dietary retinoid and triglyceride intake on the ...

Stiffening hydrogels for investigating the dynamics of hepatic stellate cell mechanotransduction during myofibroblast activation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Tissue fibrosis contributes to nearly half of all deaths in the developed world and is characterized by progressive matrix stiffening. Despite this, nearly all in vitro disease models are mechanically static.

Endocannabinoid-related compounds in gastrointestinal diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is an endogenous signalling pathway involved in the control of several gastrointestinal (GI) functions at both peripheral and central levels.

FSTL1 Orchestrates Metabolic‐Epigenetic Crosstalk: Glycolysis‐Dependent H3K18 Lactylation Drives Cartilage Fibrosis in Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FSTL1 promotes glycolysis during chondrocyte fibrosis by triggering the HIF‐1 signaling pathway, which causes lactate to accumulate. The buildup of lactate leads to changes in histone lysine lactylation, which in turn enhances the expression of genes associated with fibrosis.

Construction of PANoptosis‐Inhibiting Carbonized Polymer Dots via Machine Learning Potential for Mitigating Chemodrug‐Induced Nephrotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An enhanced sampling method is developed for molecular dynamics based on trained machine learning force fields to guide the construction of PANoptosis‐inhibiting carbonized polymer dots (Lu‐CDs) derived from a flavonoid compound for treating chemodrug‐induced nephrotoxicity.

CD5L is a pleiotropic player in liver fibrosis controlling damage, fibrosis and immune cell contentResearch in context

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2019
Background: Chronic hepatic inflammation leads to liver fibrosis, which may progress to cirrhosis, a condition with high morbidity. Our aim was to assess the as yet unknown role of innate immunity protein CD5L in liver fibrosis.

Activation of PPARγ/P53 signaling is required for curcumin to induce hepatic stellate cell senescence

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2016
Activation of quiescent hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) is the major event in hepatic fibrogenesis, along with enhancement of cell proliferation and overproduction of extracellular matrix.

Activating the Osteoblastic USP26 Pathway Alleviates Multi‐Organ Fibrosis by Decreasing Insulin Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The loss of Ubiquitin Specific Peptidase 26 (USP26) in osteoblasts results in decreased bone formation, as well as multi‐organ fibrosis associated with insulin resistance (IR). Mechanistically, the absence of USP26 reduces glycolysis and lactate accumulation, leading to decreased histone H3 lysine 18 lactylation (H3K18LA) in the promoter region of KH ...
