Insulin resistance and hepatocarcinogenesis

open access: yesClinical Journal of Gastroenterology, 2010
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for 85-90% of liver cancers and is one of the most frequent carcinomas in the world. HCCs classically develop against the background of chronic liver diseases. Common causes of such liver diseases are viral hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis, or immune-related diseases; however, 15-50% of patients with HCCs have none

Periodontitis and metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease with systemic effects that extend beyond the oral cavity and contribute to systemic immune and metabolic dysregulation. Chronic liver diseases, particularly metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its progressive phenotypes, have emerged as major global ...

Association between dietary fatty acids and all‐cause mortality in patients with cirrhosis: A cohort study

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Liver cirrhosis imposes a substantial global burden, with complications driving high mortality. Diet is pivotal in managing liver disease progression and cirrhosis‐related death. This study investigated associations between total fat intake, specific dietary fatty acid subclasses and all‐cause mortality in cirrhotic patients.

Cancer Chemopreventive Effect of 2′,4′-Dihydroxy-6′-methoxy-3′,5′-dimethylchalcone on Diethylnitrosamine-Induced Early Stages of Hepatocarcinogenesis in Rats

open access: yesPlants
2′,4′-dihydroxy-6′-methoxy-3′,5′-dimethylchalcone (DMC) is a major compound in Cleistocalyx nervosum seed extract (CSE), which has been reported to have various biological activities, including anti-cancer activity.

Gallstone formation and hepatobiliary tumour risk: Clinical implications of the bile acid–gut microbiota axis

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
1. Irregular dietary patterns (e.g., late breakfast, reduced meal frequency) upregulate the bai gene cluster by disrupting cholecystokinin (CCK) release rhythms and gut microbiota circadian rhythms, leading to increased production of secondary bile acids, particularly DCA. High‐carbohydrate dietary patterns increase gallstone risk (OR = 1.329).

A Serum lncRNA Signature Determines Oncogenic YAP Activity in Cancer Patients

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 7, Page 1829-1843, 1 October 2026.
Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) signatures are promising cancer biomarkers, since their dysregulation in tumors is reflected in body fluids. In this study, next‐generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and gene expression data were combined to investigate an lncRNA signature linked specifically to the cancer‐promoting YAP in several cancer types ...

BOK promotes chemical-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in mice.

open access: yes, 2018
BCL-2-related ovarian killer (BOK) is a conserved and widely expressed BCL-2 family member with sequence homology to pro-apoptotic BAX and BAK, but with poorly understood pathophysiological function.

Myeloid Focal Adhesion Kinase Promotes Macrophage Accumulation but Does Not Alter Tumor Progression in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Carcinogenesis, Volume 65, Issue 10, Page 1209-1225, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) develops within an immunologically complex tumor microenvironment that is heavily shaped by infiltrating myeloid cells. Immune‐based treatment strategies such as atezolizumab plus bevacizumab have shown promising therapeutic benefits, but patients do not experience durable responses.
