The Role of Dietary Fatty Acids in Modulating Blue Crab (Callinectes sapidus) Physiology, Reproduction, and Quality Traits in Captivity

open access: yesAnimals
The invasive blue crab is challenging the Mediterranean basin, progressively declining local populations. This reflects a lower prey availability and suitability of dietary nutrients (mainly n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, PUFA). The present study aimed

Investigating the Heat Stability and Inactivation Conditions of Decapod Iridescent Virus 1 (DIV1)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat treatment effectively inactivates decapod iridescent virus 1 (DIV1) under milder conditions than current WOAH recommendations. DIV1 infectivity was eliminated at 56°C for 30 min, 60°C for 15 min, or 70°C for 1 min, providing optimized heat treatment strategies for aquaculture biosecurity and seafood safety.

Epidemiological Survey and Genomic Insights Into Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 Transmission in the Blood Clam Anadara broughtonii in China (2019–2025)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Seven‐year surveillance reveals a cold‐adapted OsHV‐1 lineage in blood clams, with disease onset at 13°C—3–5°C lower than in oysters—and identifies asymptomatic carriers and facility effluent as key transmission routes. ABSTRACT Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV‐1) poses a major threat to bivalve aquaculture, but its impact on blood clams (Anadara ...

Gender-Specific Metabolic Responses of Crassostrea hongkongensis to Infection with Vibrio harveyi and Lipopolysaccharide

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2022
Gender differences in the hemocyte immune response of Hong Kong oyster Crassostrea hongkongensis to Vibrio harveyi and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) infection exist. To determine if a gender difference also exists, we use a 1H NMR-based metabolomics method to

Oxidative Stress Biomarkers in the Shrimp Macrobrachium amazonicum (Heller, 1862): Assessment in an Environmental Preservation Area in the Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Anthropogenic activities generate a significant amount of pollutants that are released into the environment, causing physiological and ecological disturbances. Among the xenobiotics present in aquatic ecosystems, numerous chemical and organic compounds have oxidative potential or are metabolized through oxidative processes, which may amplify ...

Longevity and Growth of the Crabs Callinectes sapidus and Callinectes rathbunae (Decapoda: Portunidae) in Paraíso Tabasco Mexico

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Individual growth models are important in fisheries of natural populations and can be incorporated in production models to estimate their maximum sustainable yield. Blue crab species, Callinectes sapidus and Callinectes rathbunae were obtained in the Mecoacán lagoon, Paraíso, Tabasco Mexico by “nasa” and “yahual” nets. Biometric values such as
