UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Hereditary ovarian cancer

open access: yesDiscover Oncology
Ovarian cancer ranks sixth as the most common cancer and fifth as the most deadly malignancy among women worldwide. In addition, it places third among the most common gynecological cancers. Which proves that it is a significant medical problem worldwide.

Malformin A1–mediated cytotoxicity in ovarian cancer cells occurs through pyroptosis and autophagy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated the effects of the natural compound Malformin A1 (MA1) on the cytoskeleton that regulates cell proliferation and migration. Disruption of the cytoskeleton can impair these processes and promote cancer cell death. MA1 disrupted cytoskeletal organization, induced DNA damage, inflammation, activated autophagy, and pyroptosis ...

Not all information is equally important: informed consent to genetic testing for hereditary cancer

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology
Purpose Informed consent in medical care is supposed to guarantee patient autonomy. However, in practice, written consent is often inadequate for this purpose: In an effort to meet legal requirements, consent forms are often comprehensive and complex ...

Germline Genetic Susceptibility Testing Among Emirati Nationals at Risk for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome

open access: yesJCO Global Oncology
PURPOSEBreast cancer among Emirati patients is characterized by early-onset disease and later stages at presentation. Little is known about the germline genetic variants that may contribute to these observations. The goal of this study is to characterize

Identification and characterisation of calcitonin receptor isoforms expressed in glioblastoma derived glioma stem and U‐87 MG cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma cells express calcitonin receptor variants (CT receptor isoforms) that may help them survive stress. Using qPCR, transcript‐specific long‐read nanopore sequencing, immunofluorescence co‐localisation and comparative sequence analysis, this study identifies a novel alternatively spliced CALCR transcript that encodes the CTb receptor isoform ...

BRCA1 in the DNA damage response and at telomeres

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2013
. Mutations of the breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility gene 1 (BRCA1) account for about 40-45% of hereditary breast cancer cases. Moreover, a significant fraction of sporadic (non-hereditary) breast and ovarian cancers exhibit reduced or absent ...

Using cell‐free RNA to identify B‐ and T‐cell clonality for diagnosis and monitoring of B‐ and T‐cell neoplasms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using peripheral blood for determining B‐cell or T‐cell clonality is more reliable when we use cell‐free RNA (cfRNA) because cells release blood significantly more RNA than DNA. Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) of cfRNA allows us to evaluate fragment cfRNA and evaluate clonality reliably without the need for prior determination of the specific dominant

REHABILITATION IN BREAST CANCER WOMEN WITH BRCA1/BRCA2 VARIANTS: RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVE

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Rehabilitation
Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer syndrome (HBOC) is caused by germline pathogenetic/likely pathogenetic (P/LP) variants in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.
