Abstract: A male orangutan suffered from ulcers at the buccal mucosa. We obtained swab fluid from the base of both vesicles and ulcers and collected blood for further separation into serum, plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) for detection of antibody to herpesvirus by serology and herpesvirus DNA by polymerase chain reaction (PCR ...

Clinical Techniques in Small Animal Practice, 2000
Feline herpesvirus infection is extremely common and may lead to recurring ocular disease in the adult cat. Recognition of the history and clinical signs that are consistent with FHV-1 infection is critical because diagnostic tests may be negative. Although a variety of treatment options are available, no one therapy is successful in every cat, and a ...

Dental Clinics of North America, 1996
There are presently seven known herpes viruses that infect humans. Those viruses are important in the fields of oral medicine and dentistry because they cause oral lesions, infect saliva, and cause serious and potentially life-threatening infections in patients whose immune systems are compromised by cancer chemotherapy, immunosuppressive drugs, or HIV

Herpesvirus saimiri and Herpesvirus ateles
1982Herpesvirus saimiri (H. saimiri) is a ubiquitous agent of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus), a primate species native to the South American rain forests. The virus can easily be isolated from blood and tissue-culture cells of most healthy squirrel monkeys, and there is no evidence so far that H. saimiri is pathogenic in its natural host.

Herpesvirus strigis: A new avian herpesvirus
Archiv fr die gesamte Virusforschung, 1973A virus isolated from dead owls displaying a syndrom called hepato-splenitis infectiosa strigum (HSIS) killed chicken-embryos following inoculation by various routes. Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV 8), also known as Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is a g2 herpesvirus and the most recently identified human tumor virus. HHV 8 has been consistently implicated in the pathogenesis of all clinical variants of Kaposi's sarcoma, as well as in the plasma cell variant of multicentric Castleman's disease and primary ...

Reviews in Medical Virology, 1993
Human herpesvirus 7, reported in 1990 is a lymphotropic member of the betaherpesvirus subfamily of herpesviruses. The virus is highly seroprevalent, primary infection usually occurs during childhood, and it has been associated with cases of exanthem subitum, pityriasis rosea, neurological manifestations and transplant complications.
