Protective effects of hesperidin in gastric damage caused by experimental ischemia-reperfusion injury model in rats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira
Purpose: This study evaluated the protective effect of hesperidin on injury induced by gastric ischemia-reperfusion. Methods: Fifty male Sprague Dawley rats (250–300 g) were divided into five groups: control (C), sham (S), ischemia (I), ischemia ...

Orange juice–derived flavanone and phenolic metabolites do not acutely affect cardiovascular risk biomarkers: a randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover trial in men at moderate risk of cardiovascular disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Epidemiological data suggest inverse associations between citrus flavanone intake and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, insufficient randomized controlled trial (RCT) data limit our understanding of mechanisms by which flavanones ...

Valorization of Garcinia humilis Residues in Active Collagen/Starch Films for Biodegradable Packaging Applications

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, Volume 39, Issue 5, Page 517-531, May 2026.
Residues from Garcinia humilis were used to obtain a phenolic‐rich extract (GHRE) and incorporated into collagen–starch films. The addition of GHRE improved antioxidant activity, thermal stability and elasticity, while reducing water vapour permeability.

Extracts From Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) Peel via Microwave‐Assisted and Conventional Extractions: Evaluation of Nosema Infection and Toxicity in Honey Bees

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
Conventional and microwave‐assisted extractions of grapefruit peels were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) based on TPC, TFC, and antioxidant activity (DPPH). The phytochemical profiles of the two optimum extracts were characterized via HPLC before evaluating their acute and chronic toxicity, as well as their effects on honey bee (Apis

Quality Characteristics of Processed Opuntia ficus‐indica Using Selected Drying Techniques

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop and characterize the technological, physical, nutritional, and bioactive properties of cactus cladode flour (Opuntia ficus‐indica L.) obtained through freeze‐drying (OP‐FD) and air circulation oven drying (OP‐AC). The flours exhibited low water activity (OP‐AC: 0.410; OP‐FD: 0.501), moisture content (OP‐AC: 5.8 g ...

Arginine‐Enriched Oral Nutritional Supplement as an Adjunct to Standard of Care in the Treatment of Recalcitrant Venous Leg Ulcers

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 23, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are common, difficult to heal, and prone to recurrence. Malnutrition and impaired nitric‐oxide–dependent microcirculation may contribute to recalcitrance. Arginine‐enriched oral nutritional supplements (ONS) improve healing in other wound types, but data in VLUs is limited.
