Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Nucleation Compared:  Rapid Nucleation on Microscopic Impurities

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2006
We use computer simulation to calculate the rates of both homogeneous nucleation and heterogeneous nucleation on microscopic impurities. We do so in perhaps the simplest model of fluids and magnets: the two-dimensional Ising model. We expect our results to be qualitatively applicable to many simple and complex fluids.

Superheating in nucleate boiling calculated by the heterogeneous nucleation theory

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1979
Abstract With the heterogeneous nucleation theory the superheating of the liquid boundary layer in nucleate boiling is described not only for the onset of nuclear boiling but also for the boiling crisis. The rate of superheat depends on the thermodynamic stability of the metastable liquid, which is influenced by the statistical fluctuations in the ...

Heterogeneous nucleation and self-nucleation of poly(p-dioxanone)

Journal of Materials Science, 2000
The changes in nucleation behaviour upon addition of Boron Nitride (BN), Talc and Hydroxyapatite (HA) to poly(p-dioxanone) (PPDX) were monitored by DSC and Polarised Optical Microscopy (PM). Self-nucleation DSC studies evidenced the existence of the usual three self-nucleation domains depending on the self-nucleation temperature (T s) employed.

Heterogeneous nucleation in a multiplex adaptive network

Physical Review E
We investigate the phase transition to synchronization in a multiplex network of adaptively coupled Kuramoto oscillators with frequency disorders. We demonstrate how the frequency disorder in a specific layer initiates nucleation across the layers of the multiplex networks.

Heterogeneous nucleation and flashing in adiabatic pipes

2007
A new model of heterogeneous nucleation at walls during flashing and boiling is presented. The model is based on a new method for computation of the bubble departure diameter in flows accounting for mutual bubble interactions and the limitation of the bubble production due to the limited amount of energy supplied into the boundary layer by turbulence ...
