Mechanisms of heteroresistance in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1994
Characteristic for methicillin-resistant (Mcr) staphylococci is the heterogeneous expression of the intrinsic methicillin resistance. The majority of the cells express resistance to low concentrations of methicillin, and a minority of the cells express resistance to much higher concentrations.

Fluoroquinolone heteroresistance, antimicrobial tolerance, and lethality enhancement

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
With tuberculosis, the emergence of fluoroquinolone resistance erodes the ability of treatment to interrupt the progression of MDR-TB to XDR-TB. One way to reduce the emergence of resistance is to identify heteroresistant infections in which subpopulations of resistant mutants are likely to expand and make the infections fully resistant: treatment ...

Systematic Evaluation of Helicobacter pylori Susceptibility to Antibiotics Before First‐Line Treatment: A Cohort Study

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 13, Issue 7, Page 1289-1294, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Background European guidelines recommend that susceptibility tests be routinely performed, even before prescribing first‐line treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection. However, empirical treatments are the rule in France, and susceptibility‐guided treatments are the exception.

Methods to Evaluate Colistin Heteroresistance in Acinetobacter baumannii [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The nosocomial pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii is a growing threat to public health due to its increasing resistance to antibiotics including the last-line polymyxin, colistin. Heteroresistance to colistin has been described in A. baumannii, wherein a resistant subpopulation of cells coexisting with a majority susceptible subpopulation actively grows ...

A Birth-Death Model to Understand Bacterial Antimicrobial Heteroresistance from Time-Kill Curves. Matlab Codes

open access: yes
The repository consists of the following main files: - MainSSA.m: The main script where the user define the options (number of trajectories, parameter values, simulation times, antimicrobial concentrations, etc.) for simulating stochastic trajectories ...

Detection and Characterization of Colistin Heteroresistance in an Enterobacter cloacae ST48 Strain Isolated From Raw Milk in Algeria

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 4, July 2025.
Enterobacter cloacae ST48 isolate from raw cow milk exhibits colistin heteroresistnace profile. Chromosomal gene mutations in mgrB, phoPQ and pmrAB, incude colistin resistance in E. claocea isolate ABSTRACT An Enterobacter cloacae ST48 isolate exhibiting a colistin‐heteroresistant phenotype was obtained from raw cow milk in Algeria.

Table_1_Characteristics of Helicobacter pylori Heteroresistance in Gastric Biopsies and Its Clinical Relevance.docx

open access: yes, 2022
BackgroundAntimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) plays a vital role in anti-Helicobacter pylori treatment, but the traditional AST method has difficulty detecting heteroresistance, which may cause an increased prevalence of resistant strains and ...

Decreased susceptibility to vancomycin and other mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics in Staphylococcus epidermidis as a therapeutic problem in hospital treatment

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Multidrug-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci represent a real therapeutic challenge. The aim of the study was to emphasize the importance of heteroresistance to vancomycin presence in methicillin-resistant strains of S. epidermidis.

Real‐Time PCR Helicobacter pylori Test in Comparison With Culture and Histology for Helicobacter pylori Detection and Identification of Resistance to Clarithromycin: A Single‐Center Real‐Life Study

open access: yesHelicobacter, Volume 30, Issue 2, March/April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background In our center, RT‐PCR was integrated as a routine method to diagnose Helicobacter pylori due to its higher availability after COVID‐19 pandemics. The objective of this study was to assess the feasibility and performance of systematically performed RT‐PCR for H.
