Recent studies have demonstrated the fundamental role of coagulation factors in adenovirus infectivity in vivo. It has been shown that coagulation factor X (FX) binds to the hypervariable regions (HVR) of the adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) hexon with high ...

Adenovirus Serotype 5 Hexon Mediates Liver Gene Transfer [PDF]
Adenoviruses are used extensively as gene transfer agents, both experimentally and clinically. However, targeting of liver cells by adenoviruses compromises their potential efficacy. In cell culture, the adenovirus serotype 5 fiber protein engages the coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) to bind cells.

Genomic characterization of a novel human adenovirus type 31 recombinant in the hexon gene
A novel human recombinant adenovirus of species A (HAdV-A31 MZ) was isolated from a patient with acute gastroenteritis in Japan. The complete genome of HAdV-A31 strain MZ contains 33 776 bp. Analysis of the hexon gene of HAdV-A31 MZ indicated that its hexon sequence is the result of a genetic recombination between those of HAdV-A31 and a close relative

DNA Sequence of the Adenovirus Type 41 Hexon Gene and Predicted Structure of the Protein
The gene for the major capsid protein (hexon) of human adenovirus type 41 (Ad41) has been isolated and the complete DNA sequence determined. Comparison of the predicted amino acid sequence with hexons from human Ad2 and Ad5 and bovine adenovirus type 3 reveals regions of high homology at the N and C termini separated by a central region of low homology.

Retargeting of gene expression using endothelium specific hexon modified adenoviral vector
Adenovirus serotype 5 (Ad5) vectors are well suited for gene therapy. However, tissue-selective transduction by systemically administered Ad5-based vectors is confounded by viral particle sequestration in the liver. Hexon-modified Ad5 expressing reporter gene under transcriptional control by the immediate/early cytomegalovirus (CMV) or the Roundabout 4

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) coupled with direct sequencing of the product of the hexon gene was applied to avian adenoviruses (formerly group I-III). The expected sizes of DNA fragments were successfully amplified by PCR from all of the group I-III avian adenoviruses with our designed primers.
