Total synthesis of hexuronic acids

Carbohydrate Research, 1977
Six stereoisomeric hexuronic acids (tert-butyl esters of methyl pyranosides) having the altro, manno, gluco, gulo, galacto, and talo configurations were obtained from cis,trans-tert-butyl 2-methoxy-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-6-carboxylate (5). The synthesis involved the following successive steps: epoxidation of the double bond in 5, opening of the epoxides ...

An automated method for the determination of hexuronic acids

Analytical Biochemistry, 1965
Abstract 1. 1. An automated method is deseribed for the determination of hexuronic acids based on the carbazole reaction. 2. 2. The borate modification was found to be superior because of the increased color yield and the reduced interference caused by the presence of NaCl. 3. 3.

A rapid method for separation and identification of several hexuronic acids and hexuronic acid-containing oligosaccharides

Analytical Biochemistry, 1975
Abstract Five naturally occurring hexuronic acids and several hexuronic acid-containing oligosaccharides were separated and identified by high voltage paper electrophoresis, using one of the following buffers. (i) Pyridine-acetic acid-water (1:10:89, by volume), the pH of which was adjusted to 2.3–3.5 with 98% formic acid.

The Methyl Ethers of Hexuronic Acids

Advances in Carbohydrate Chemistry, 1954
Publisher Summary This chapter provides an overview of the methyl ethers of hexuronic acids. Hexuronic acid residues occur in a large number of different polysaccharides. The chapter focuses on the methyl ethers of the naturally occurring D-glucuronic, D-galacturonic, and D-mannuronic acids, and their derivatives.

G.L.C. of the O-trimethylsilyl derivatives of hexuronic acids

Carbohydrate Research, 1976
The free acids, sodium salts, and lactones of several hexuronic acids have been studied as their O-trimethylsilyl derivatives by gas-liquid chromatography using SE-30 and XE-60 liquid phases. Silylation was best performed in methyl sulphoxide. The equilibrium between the various forms of a hexuronic acid in methyl sulphoxide was also studied by g.l.c ...

A gas chromatographic method for the quantitative detemination of hexuronic acids in alginic acid

Analytical Biochemistry, 1981
Abstract A method has been developed for the quantitative determination of the relative proportions of d -mannuronic and l -guluronic acids in alginic acid. To obtain homogeneous reaction conditions the viscosity of the alginic acid sample was first decreased by limited hydrolysis with mineral acid.

Determination of hexuronic acids in glycosaminoglycans by automated ion-exchange chromatography

Analytical Biochemistry, 1976
Abstract This report describes a procedure for analyzing glucuronic and iduronic acids using the Technicon automated sugar chromatography system. Glueronic and iduronic acids of standard samples of glycosaminoglycans have been analyzed after hydrolysis by formic acid.

On the formation of reductic acid from pentoses or hexuronic acids

Carbohydrate Research, 1993
Abstract Careful hydrolysis of (±)- cis - or (±)- trans -tetrahydro-2,5-dimethoxy-2-furaldehyde dimethyl acetal proceeded via 5,5-dimethoxy-4-oxopentanal to give (±)- trans -4-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-cyclopentenone and (±)- trans -4,5-dihydroxy-2-cyclopentenone.
