A poly‐proline II helix in YadA from Yersinia enterocolitica serotype O:9 facilitates heparin binding through electrostatic interactions

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 291, Issue 4, Page 761-777, February 2024.
YadAO:9, the major adhesin of Yersinia enterocolitica serotype O:9, harbors an N‐terminal poly‐proline II helix that facilitates heparin binding. Binding is based on electrostatic interactions between basic residues within the YadAO:9 motif and sulfate groups of heparin.

Enterovirus 71 uses cell surface heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycan as an attachment receptor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Enterovirus 71 (EV-71) infections are usually associated with mild hand, foot, and mouth disease in young children but have been reported to cause severe neurological complications with high mortality rates.

Value of Hexuronic Acid in the Treatment of Graves'Disease with Suprarenal Cortex. [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1930
In 19211 and in 19242 we reported 20 cases of Graves'disease treated with a glycerol extract of fresh ox suprarenal cortex. This treatment produced very striking improvement in 12 to 15 days in the following particulars, namely (1) a gain in body weight, (2) a gain in muscle strength, (3) disappearance of diarrhea, (4) control of excessive menstrual ...

Control of tissue homeostasis by the extracellular matrix: Synthetic heparan sulfate as a promising therapeutic for periodontal health and bone regeneration

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, Volume 94, Issue 1, Page 510-531, February 2024.
Abstract Proteoglycans are core proteins associated with carbohydrate/sugar moieties that are highly variable in disaccharide composition, which dictates their function. These carbohydrates are named glycosaminoglycans, and they can be attached to proteoglycans or found free in tissues or on cell surfaces.

Genetic Locus and Structural Characterization of the Biochemical Defect in the O-Antigenic Polysaccharide of the Symbiotically Deficient \u3cem\u3eRhizobium etli\u3c/em\u3e Mutant, CE166 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The O-antigen polysaccharide (OPS) of Rhizobium etli CE3 lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is linked to the core oligosaccharide via an N-acetylquinovosaminosyl (QuiNAc) residue.

Characterisation of Rosa Mosqueta seeds : cell wall polysaccharide composition and light microscopy observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The utilisation of enzymes for the extraction of vegetable oils from seeds has been a topic of growing interest in recent years. Knowledge of the cell wall polysaccharide composition is important to select the enzyme(s) necessary for the most effective ...

Modular synthesis of anticoagulant pentasaccharides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Kutatócsoportunkban antikoaguláns hatású, szulfonsav-tartalmú heparinoid pentaszacharidok szintézisét kutatjuk. Ennek keretében olyan idraparinux mimetikumok előállításával foglalkozunk, melyekben a D, F és H glükóz egységek primer helyzetű szulfátészter-

Peptidomics of a single identified neuron reveals diversity of multiple neuropeptides with convergent actions on cellular excitability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In contrast to classical transmitters, the detailed structures and cellular and synaptic actions of neuropeptides are less well described. Peptide mass profiling of single identified neurons of the mollusc Lymnaea stagnalis indicated the presence of 17 ...
