From Powder to Pathogen: A Systematic Review of Detection, Pathogenicity, and Mitigation of Cronobacter sakazakii in Infant Formula

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Cronobacter sakazakii is an emerging foodborne pathogen that has gained increasing global attention due to its association with severe infections in neonates, particularly meningitis, sepsis, and necrotizing enterocolitis. These infections are often associated with contaminated powdered infant formula (PIF), a nonsterile but commonly used alternative ...

The Sinorhizobium meliloti RNA chaperone Hfq influences central carbon metabolism and the symbiotic interaction with alfalfa

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2010
Background The bacterial Hfq protein is able to interact with diverse RNA molecules, including regulatory small non-coding RNAs (sRNAs), and thus it is recognized as a global post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression. Loss of Hfq has an extensive

Distinctive Regulation of Carbapenem Susceptibility in Pseudomonas aeruginosa by Hfq

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Carbapenems are often the antibiotics of choice to combat life threatening infections caused by the opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The outer membrane porins OprD and OpdP serve as entry ports for carbapenems.

Effect of Cyclic Heat Treatment on the Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Al 6061 Alloy

open access: yesMaterial Design &Processing Communication, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study investigates the influence of different cyclic heat‐treatment schedules on the mechanical behavior and microstructural evolution of Al 6061 alloy. Five identically sourced plates were subjected to controlled variations in quenching rate, aging temperature, and cooling conditions to establish a consistent microstructure–property relationship.

Hfq chaperone brings speed dating to bacterial sRNA

open access: yesWiley Interdisciplinary Reviews - RNA, 2018
Hfq is a ubiquitous, Sm‐like RNA binding protein found in most bacteria and some archaea. Hfq binds small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs), facilitates base pairing between sRNAs and their mRNA targets, and directly binds and regulates translation of certain ...

A Small RNA Derived From the 5′ End of the IS200 tnpA Transcript Regulates Multiple Virulence Regulons in Salmonella typhimurium

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 124, Issue 5, Page 413-432, November 2025.
We show deletion of an IS200‐encoded sRNA (5′tnpA) in Salmonella impacts the expression of SPI‐1, flagellar, cysteine, and phsABC regulons. Evidence is presented that, with regard to the SPI‐1 regulon, 5′tnpA may function through base pairing with another sRNA known to regulate SPI1 called PinT.

Functional Characterization of a Global Virulence Regulator Hfq and Identification of Hfq-Dependent sRNAs in the Plant Pathogen Pantoea ananatis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
To successfully infect plant hosts, the collective regulation of virulence factors in a bacterial pathogen is crucial. Hfq is an RNA chaperone protein that facilitates the small RNA (sRNA) regulation of global gene expression at the post-transcriptional ...

The RNA chaperone Hfq has a multifaceted role in Edwardsiella ictaluri

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
Edwardsiella ictaluri is a Gram-negative, facultative intracellular bacterium that causes enteric septicemia in catfish (ESC). The RNA chaperone Hfq (host factor for phage Qβ replication) facilitates gene regulation via small RNAs (sRNAs) in various ...

Impact of Hfq on the intrinsic drug resistance of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2012
Salmonella enterica is an important enteric pathogen, and its various serovars cause both systemic and intestinal diseases in humans and domestic animals.
