Endothelial Cell HIF-1α and HIF-2α Differentially Regulate Metastatic Success [PDF]

open access: yesCancer Cell, 2012
The hypoxia inducible transcription factors (HIFs) control many mediators of vascular response, including both angiogenic factors and small molecules such as nitric oxide (NO). In studying how endothelial HIF response itself affects metastasis, we found that loss of HIF-1α in endothelial cells reduces NO synthesis, retards tumor cell migration through ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

HyperPointFormer: Multimodal Fusion in 3-D Space With Dual-Branch Cross-Attention Transformers

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Multimodal remote sensing data, including spectral and LiDAR or photogrammetry, is crucial for achieving satisfactory land-use/land-cover classification results in urban scenes. So far, most studies have been conducted in a 2-D context.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Hypoxia‐Inducible Factor‐2α Signaling in the Skeletal System

open access: yesJBMR Plus, 2023
Hypoxia‐inducible factors (HIFs) are oxygen‐dependent heterodimeric transcription factors that mediate molecular responses to reductions in cellular oxygen (hypoxia).

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Pyrometallurgical valorization of waelz, fayalite, and linz-donawitz slag mixtures

open access: yesScientific Reports
Waelz, Linz-Donawitz, and Fayalite slags are one of the largest industrial byproducts. They are presently under-utilized, and ending up in landfill. This work demonstrates that mixtures of these slags can be directly valorized, given that the combined ...

Hypoxia-induced cardioprotection: A review [PDF]

open access: yesArhiv za farmaciju
Hypoxia, a state of reduced oxygen availability, exerts complex and often paradoxical effects on the heart. While chronic hypoxia is detrimental and leads to adverse cardiac remodeling and dysfunction, short-term or intermittent hypoxia can contribute ...
