Notch3-Mediated mTOR Signaling Pathway Is Involved in High Glucose-Induced Autophagy in Bovine Kidney Epithelial Cells

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
It is reported that Notch3 and mTOR signaling pathways are involved in autophagy, and both can be activated by high glucose (HG). However, the relationship between Notch3 and mTOR and how Notch3 affects mTOR to regulate HG-induced autophagy in bovine ...

A Glucose Electrode Using High-Stability Glucose-Oxidase Collagen Membranes [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes Care, 1982
A very sensitive glucose electrode was developed using a glucose-oxidase membrane and an anodically polarized platinum disk. Calibration curves were linear over 4.5 concentration decades. It was adapted for human blood samples. The lifetime of glucose-oxidase collagen membranes was greater than 3 yr at 4°C and was ∼6 mo at 20–30°C.

Silicon-based nanochannel glucose sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Silicon nanochannel biological field effect transistors have been developed for glucose detection. The device is nanofabricated from a silicon-on-insulator wafer with a top-down approach and surface functionalized with glucose oxidase.

High glucose leads to redistribution of the proteasomal system

open access: yesBioFactors, 2023
AbstractThe impact of high glucose on the cellular redox state, causing both induction of antioxidative systems and also enhanced protein oxidation is discussed for a long time. It is established that elevated glucose levels are disrupting the cellular proteostasis and influencing the proteasomal system.

Glucose inhibits cardiac muscle maturation through nucleotide biosynthesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The heart switches its energy substrate from glucose to fatty acids at birth, and maternal hyperglycemia is associated with congenital heart disease. However, little is known about how blood glucose impacts heart formation.

Burdock Fructooligosaccharide Attenuates High Glucose-Induced Apoptosis and Oxidative Stress Injury in Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
Hyperglycemia-induced apoptosis and oxidative stress injury are thought to play important roles in the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Attenuating high glucose (HG)-induced renal tubular epithelial cell injury has become a potential approach ...

A novel FRET-based screen in high-throughput format to identify inhibitors of malarial and human glucose transporters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The glucose transporter PfHT is essential to the survival of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and has been shown to be a druggable target with high potential for pharmacological intervention.

Effects of breaking up prolonged sitting following low and high glycaemic index breakfast consumption on glucose and insulin concentrations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Purpose: Breaking up prolonged sitting can attenuate the postprandial rise in glucose and insulin. Whether such effects are dependent of the glycaemic index (GI) of the consumed carbohydrate is unknown.

Regulation of Transporters for Organic Cations by High Glucose

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2023
Endogenous positively charged organic substances, including neurotransmitters and cationic uremic toxins, as well as exogenous organic cations such as the anti-diabetic medication metformin, serve as substrates for organic cation transporters (OCTs) and multidrug and toxin extrusion proteins (MATEs).
