Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Damage and strain rate optical characterisation of standard and tufted non crimp fabric carbon composites for Meso-scale impact models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
As global warming is a prime concern to the wellbeing of the planet, lighter planes are a requirement to reduce CO2 emissions. Light structures made of carbon epoxy composite materials are of particular interest but are sensitive to impacts such as

High strain-rate deformation analysis of open-cell aluminium foam

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
This study investigated the high-strain rate mechanical properties of open-cell aluminium foam M-pore®. While previous research has examined the response of this type of foam under quasi-static and transitional dynamic loading conditions, there is a lack

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Characterisation of the high strain rate behaviour of tubular materials

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
Airbag gas generators used in the automotive industry are often fabricated from tubular materials. The present work deals with the development of split Hopkinson tensile bar (SHTB) tests for tubular samples. Tubular specimens were machined from the tubes.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

High strain rate micro-compression for crystal plasticity constitutive law parameters identification

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
Microcompression tests were performed on single crystal copper micropillars at 10−2 s−1 and 102 s−1 in the [100], [110] and [111] orientations, to provide inputs for crystal plasticity strain rate sensitive parameters inverse identification.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling of behaviour of metals at high strain rates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to produce the improvement of the existing simulation tools used for the analysis of materials and structures, which are dynamically loaded and subjected to the different levels of temperatures and strain ...

Strain-Rate-Dependent mechanical behavior of a non-Equimolar CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy with a segmented coarse grain structure

open access: yes, 2022
The mechanical response of a Co11.3Cr20.4Fe22.6Mn21.8Ni23.9 (wt%) high entropy alloy with a segmented coarse grain structure is investigated using strain-rate-dependent uniaxial compression experiments.
