Differential Effects of Dupilumab in a Patient With Localized Heat Urticaria, Delayed Solar Urticaria, and Symptomatic Dermographism

open access: yesThe Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Physical urticaria is a subtype of chronic inducible urticaria characterized by wheals and/or angioedema triggered by physical stimuli. We report a refractory case of combined localized heat urticaria, delayed solar urticaria, and symptomatic dermographism in a 16‐year‐old girl.

Hippocampal histamine receptors and conflictive exploration in the rat: studies using the elevated asymmetric plus-maze

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1997
The possible role of histamine receptors in the hippocampal formation on the exploratory motivation and emotionality of the rat was studied. An elevated asymmetric plus-maze composed of 4 different arms (no walls, single high wall, high and low walls and

Updated EAACI Statement on Drug Hypersensitivity Skin Testing: Methodology and Non‐Irritative Concentrations

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT These updated EAACI guidelines aim to standardize skin testing methodologies for both immediate and non‐immediate drug hypersensitivity reactions. For immediate reactions, the optimal testing window is 4–6 weeks post‐reaction; whereas beyond 6 months, false‐negative results increase.

Ambivalence of drug metabolism: Exploration of cilazapril and candesartan prodrugs for transdermal delivery and search for toxic reactive intermediates of N(G)-acylated hetarylpropylguanidines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Figuratively, drug metabolism can be considered as two sides of the same coin; one leading to desired, beneficial effects, e.g. by activation of prodrugs, whereas the other one results in adverse side effects due to toxic metabolites.

Inflammatory and Immunological Basis of Periodontal Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
The periodontal lesion emerges as an evolving immunological battlefield, where host–microbiome interactions, dysregulated immune responses, fragile resolution mechanisms, and inflammophilic dysbiosis converge to shift the balance from homeostasis to unrestrained tissue destruction.

Involvement of histamine H1 and H2 receptor inverse agonists in receptor's crossregulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Histamine [2-(4-Imidazolyl)-ethylamine] modulates different biological processes, through histamine H1 and H2 receptors, and their respective blockers are widely used in treating allergic and gastric acid-related disorders.

Comparison Between Colorimetric and Subjective Evaluation of Intradermally Injected Histamine‐Induced Erythema in Healthy Dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, EarlyView.
Background: Currently used methods for the interpretation of intradermal allergen test results either ignore the erythema of the wheals (objective method) or evaluate it subjectively (subjective method, and global wheal score [GWS]). Objectives: To compare the efficacy of GWSs in differentiating between wheals induced by intradermal injection of a ...

Histamine elicits glutamate release from cultured astrocytes

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2018
Astrocytes play key roles in regulating brain homeostasis and neuronal activity. This is, in part, accomplished by the ability of neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft to bind astrocyte membrane receptors, activating signalling cascades that regulate ...

Risk Stratification for Rebleeding in Obscure Gastrointestinal Bleeding After Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Evaluation

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 7, Issue 1, April 2027.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim: Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) is defined as bleeding of unknown origin after comprehensive upper, lower, and small‐bowel evaluations. However, the incidence and predictors of rebleeding after negative comprehensive gastrointestinal evaluation remain unclear.
