nuMap: A Web Platform for Accurate Prediction of Nucleosome Positioning

open access: yesGenomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics, 2014
Nucleosome positioning is critical for gene expression and of major biological interest. The high cost of experimentally mapping nucleosomal arrangement signifies the need for computational approaches to predict nucleosome positions at high resolution ...

Ion counting demonstrates a high electrostatic field generated by the nucleosome

open access: yeseLife, 2019
In eukaryotes, a first step towards the nuclear DNA compaction process is the formation of a nucleosome, which is comprised of negatively charged DNA wrapped around a positively charged histone protein octamer.

Differential Salt Fractionation of Nuclei to Analyze Chromatin-associated Proteins from Cultured Mammalian Cells

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2017
Nucleosomes are the core units of cellular chromatin and are comprised of 147 base pairs (bp) of DNA wrapped around an octamer of histone proteins. Proteins such as chromatin remodelers, transcription factors, and DNA repair proteins interact dynamically

Chromatin is an ancient innovation conserved between Archaea and Eukarya

open access: yeseLife, 2012
The eukaryotic nucleosome is the fundamental unit of chromatin, comprising a protein octamer that wraps ∼147 bp of DNA and has essential roles in DNA compaction, replication and gene expression. Nucleosomes and chromatin have historically been considered

Targeting and regulatory mechanisms in chromosome-wide gene regulation using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010

In vivo assembly of complete eukaryotic nucleosomes and (H3-H4)-only non-canonical nucleosomal particles in the model bacterium Escherichia coli

open access: yesCommunications Biology
As a fundamental unit for packaging genomic DNA into chromatin, the eukaryotic nucleosome core comprises a canonical octamer with two copies for each histone, H2A, H2B, H3, and H4, wrapped around with 147 base pairs of DNA.

The reconstitution of the histone octamer

open access: yes, 1987
This thesis describes methodology for the reconstitution of the chicken erythrocyte octamer from acid-denatured histones or the natural H3-H4 tetramer and H2A-H2B dimers. Oligomeric properties of reconstituted octamers were elucidated during column chromatographic and chemical cross-linking studies.
