Structural analysis of a reconstituted DNA containing three histone octamers and histone H5
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1987Previous work has shown that DNA and the histone proteins will combine to form structures of a complex, yet definite nature. Here, we describe three experiments aimed at a better understanding of the interactions of DNA with the histone octamer and with histone H5. First, there has been some question as to whether the methylation of DNA could influence

Mathematical modeling the formation of a histone octamer
Technical Physics, 2017A physical model of the interaction of protein molecules and their ability to form complex biological systems for the in vitro case in a solution of monovalent salt has been developed. Their reactive abilities using the methods of electrostatics based on the example of the step-by-step formation of the histone octamer from the H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 ...

[Two structural forms of histone octamer].
Biofizika, 1985It has been found that histone octamer of calf thymus (H2A--H2B--H3--H4)2 can exist in two structural states--"loose" (2M NaCl) and "compact" one (4M NaCl). The compact state of the octamer is characterized by screening of part of tyrosyls for quenching effect of ions I-, longer relaxation time of tyrosyls, greater stability of histone H3 towards ...

Unveiling the Conformational Dynamics of the Histone Tails Using Markov State Modeling
Journal of Chemical Theory and ComputationBiomolecules predominantly exert their function by altering conformational dynamics. The nucleosome core particle (NCP) is the fundamental unit of chromatin. DNA with ∼146 base pairs wraps around the histone octamer to form a nucleosome.

Enhanced stability of histone octamers from plant nucleosomes: Role of H2A and H2B histones
Biochemistry, 1992Gel filtration and sedimentation studies have previously established that the vertebrate animal core histone octamer is in equilibrium with an (H3-H4)2 tetramer and an H2A-H2B dimer [Eickbush, T. H., & Moudrianakis, E. N. (1978) Biochemistry 17, 4955-4964; Godfrey, J. E., Eickbush, T. H., & Moudrianakis, E. N. (1980) Biochemistry 19, 1339-1346].

The identity of conformational states of reconstituted and native histone octamers
European Journal of Biochemistry, 1983Histone octamers were reconstituted from the following preparations: (a) natural histone H3‐H4 tetramer and histone H2A‐H2B dimer, either selectively extracted from chromatin with solutions of sodium chloride or prepared by dissociation of the natural octamer; (b) acid‐denatured core histones, either an unfractionated mixture or individually purified ...

The oxidised histone octamer does not form a H3 disulphide bond
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2006A H3 dimer band is produced when purified native histone octamers are run on an SDS-PAGE gel in a beta-mercaptoethanol-free environment. To investigate this, native histone octamer crystals, derived from chicken erythrocytes, and of structure (H2A-H2B)-(H4-H3)-(H3'-H4')-(H2B'-H2A'), were grown in 2 M KCl, 1.35 M potassium phosphates and 250-350 microM ...

[Structure of histone octamers in reconstituted polynucleosomes].
Molekuliarnaia biologiia, 1986The salt-dependent structural changes of the histone octamer in complex with high-molecular-weight DNA have been studied by fluorescent spectroscopy. Changes in both the spectra maximum position and anisotropy of the histone tyrosine fluorescence reveal structural transitions in nucleosome within the ranges of 0.5-3 mM and 20-30 mM NaCl.

Attraction, phasing and neighbour effects of histone octamers on curved DNA
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1990Nucleosome core particles were reconstituted on various DNA fragments containing a Crithidia fasciculata kinetoplast curved tract. The results show that, on curved DNA, nucleosome core particles form six- to sevenfold preferentially, relative to bulk sequences.
