The crosstalk between Dendritic and Natural Killer cells together with the function of Tumor Associated Macrophages (TAM) represent novel cancer-related targets for Human Immunodeficiency Type-1 Protease Inhibitors

open access: yes, 2009
Inflammatory conditions and infections in selected organs increase the risk of cancer. In the tumor microenvironment, smoldering inflammation contributes to proliferation and survival of malignant cells, angiogenesis, metastasis and subversion of ...

Proteome‐Wide Analysis of Palmitoylated Proteins in Macrophages Reveals Novel Insights Into Early Immune Signaling

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Protein S‐palmitoylation, a reversible lipid modification, plays critical roles in regulating protein function and localization. However, its comprehensive role in the rapid reprogramming of macrophages during early immune responses remains incompletely understood.

Development of a physiologically‐based pharmacokinetic model for Ritonavir characterizing exposure and drug interaction potential at both acute and steady‐state conditions

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 14, Issue 3, Page 523-539, March 2025.
Abstract Ritonavir (RTV) is a potent CYP3A inhibitor that is widely used as a pharmacokinetic (PK) enhancer to increase exposure to select protease inhibitors. However, as a strong and complex perpetrator of CYP3A interactions, RTV can also enhance the exposure of other co‐administered CYP3A substrates, potentially causing toxicity.

Peptide‐based antibacterial nanoplatforms: Design principles, stimuli‐regulated behaviors, and applications

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
Peptide‐based antibacterial nanoplatforms, encompassing self‐assembled peptides and peptide‐engineered inorganic, polymeric, and lipid nanocarriers, are systematically reviewed. The article highlights design principles and stimuli‐responsive regulation for improving peptide stability, delivery efficiency, and antibacterial performance.

Unraveling the Physicochemical Landscape of Organoselenium Compounds in Nanocarrier Systems

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
Main nanocarriers employed to enhance the bioavailability and transport of organoselenium compounds. The image illustrates the key interaction forces that stabilize these organoselenium species in solution, enabling their application in drug delivery systems, catalysis, photoelectronic devices, and sensing technologies. In recent years, publications on

Computational Protein Design Force Field Optimization: A Negative Design Approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
An accurate force field is essential to computational protein design and protein folding studies. Proper force field tuning is problematic, however, due in part to the incomplete modeling of the unfolded state.

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Protease Inhibitor Resistance Is Uncommon in HIV-1 Subtype C Infected Patients on Failing Second-Line Lopinavir/r-Containing Antiretroviral Therapy in South Africa

open access: yesAIDS Research and Treatment, 2011
Limited data exist on HIV-1 drug resistance patterns in South Africa following second-line protease-inhibitor containing regimen failure. This study examined drug resistance patterns emerging in 75 HIV-1 infected adults experiencing virologic failure on ...

Mapping Allergen B‐ and T‐Cell Epitopes: Technological Advances and Their Role in Precision Allergy Therapy

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Allergic diseases arise from aberrant immune recognition of otherwise harmless environmental proteins and are driven by epitope‐specific interactions between allergens and the adaptive immune system. Although component‐resolved diagnostics have improved molecular characterisation of sensitization, they remain limited to whole‐allergen ...

Ultrasound measurements of carotid intima-media thickness and plaque in HIV-infected patients on the Mediterranean diet

open access: yes, 2013
Aim To evaluate the influence of food habits, specifically adherence to the Mediterranean diet, on carotid intimamedia thickness (CIMT) and the presence of plaques in HIV-infected patients taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) and non-HIV-infected ...
