Abstract Further evaluation of tannins as anti-HIV agents indicates that these compounds inhibited HIV replication only slightly in the absence of toxicity (therapeutic index ≤ 5). In addition, no correlation was found between inhibition of reverse transcriptase and of HIV in cell culture.
