Ankylosing Spondylitis: HLA-B*27-Positive Versus HLA-B*27-Negative Disease
Current Rheumatology Reports, 2017We review our current knowledge about the clinical features of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) who possess HLA-B*27 versus those who lack this gene.ERAP1 association is present only in HLA-B*27+ patients, but other genetic associations are similar between the two groups.

Ligation based HLA‐B*27 typing
Tissue Antigens, 1996We have established a ligation based typing method to detect HLA‐B*27 alleles at the DNA level. The method requires amplification of exon 2 of the HLA‐B locus from genomic DNA by the polymerase catalyzed chain reaction (PCR) using group specific primers.

HLA-B[*]27 is significantly enriched in Nordic patients with psoriatic arthritis mutilans
Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology, 2021The genetic contribution to psoriatic disease is substantial with a dominating influence of the HLA region. The profile of HLA class I genotypes likely contributes to shaping clinical phenotypes. Herein we aimed to explore such genotypes in cohorts of closely characterised subsets of psoriatic disease with special focus on psoriatic arthritis mutilans (

HLA-B*27 subtypes and their implications in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis
Gene, 2018Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a highly heritable kind of arthritis that affects the vertebral column. AS risk has been associated strongly with Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B*27. In fact, some HLA-B*27 subtypes have been associated with the increased disease risk, although some specific subtypes have not shown such associations.

HLA-B*27 and Ankylosing Spondylitis: 50 Years of Insights and Discoveries
Current Rheumatology Reports, 2023To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking discovery of a remarkably strong association between HLA-B*27 and ankylosing spondylitis (AS).In addition to HLA-B*27, more than 116 other recognized genetic risk variants have been identified, while epigenetic factors largely remain unexplored in this context.

HLA‐B*27 typing by group‐specific hybridization in microtiter plates
Tissue Antigens, 1998Abstract: We have developed and evaluated a test for HLA‐B*27 based on PCR and DNA hybridization in microtiter plates. A region within exon 2 of the HLA‐B gene is amplified and labeled by PCR and the amplification product is hybridized to a group‐specific HLA‐B*27 and a generic control oligonucleotide probe in two separate cavities of the plate. Bound

HLA‐B*27 typing by PCR—restriction fragment length polymorphism
Tissue Antigens, 1997In this study we describe the use of PCR‐RFLP for genotyping HLA‐B*27. A 557 bp fragment from HLA‐B locus is amplified and subjected to digestion with StyI. The presence of B*27 is detected on electrophoresis by the appearance of 431+126 bp pattern. The same pattern could be obtained only for the very infrequent allele B*7301.

Distribution of HLA-B*27 subtypes in Tunisians and their association with ankylosing spondylitis
Joint Bone Spine, 2008The human leukocyte antigen HLA-B27 is a class I antigen of the major histocompatibility complex strongly associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and other related spondyloarthropathies (SpAs). The mechanism of this association remains unknown. HLA-B27 is a serologic specificity that represents a family of at least 25 different HLA-B27 alleles ...

A possible association between HLA B-27 and vulnerability to schizophrenia
Personality and Individual Differences, 1985Abstract The frequency of HLA B-27 has been found to be increased in schizophrenic patients, especially in those with a positive family history of schizophrenia. In the present study, psychiatrically healthy arthropathic patients bearing HLA B-27 were found to have significantly higher P scores as compared to arthropathic patients without this ...
